Obama Blames himself for mishandling Daschle

Obama blames himself for mishandling Daschle - Yahoo! News

Wow....what a refreshing change of pace. We went from a President who wouldn't accept responsibility for anything and would never admit he made a mistake....to a President who actually admits he screwed up.

I'm glad to see that Obama admits he screwed up here.

Talk about Rose-Colored Glasses. You're simply seeing what you want to see. Bush took plenty of responsibility for errors:
President Bush took responsibility Tuesday for breakdowns in the federal government’s response to Hurricane Katrina, saying the massive storm had “exposed serious problems in our response capability.”
The problem both Presidents have is that they are simply posturing. With responsibility comes accountability - it's a completely empty gesture to step forward and take responsibility and then not to atone for the errors committed.

How do you think Obama should atone for his error?

Well he is the messiah and I have been praying for one of the great lakes to be turned into Bud Light and the Mississippi to be turned into a river of Tuaca

Now that's a good question. If the error is serious, which this was not, then honorable resignation is appropriate. If President Obama, or President Bush before him, cannot find a way to demonstrate atonement, then I, for one, don't really want to see them step forward and make useless gestures designed to make them appear humble and reasonable, when there is no cost associated with those gestures. Just spare me the theater.

I don't see how Obama is at fault here. It's Daschle's fault for not paying his taxes.

Does it take a politican to get nominated for a cabinet position to find out they been cheatin' on their taxes? They ought do an audit on every damn one of 'em.

Re: Obama Blames himself for mishandling Daschle

Is anyone else not at all impressed by this?

Obama is apologizing for not thoroughly vetting Daschle and appointing someone with serious tax issues. That's fine and quite nice of him to do.

However, shouldn't he be apologizing for trying to appoint someone who made huge sums of money off of health care companies in the past 3 years to a position where they would be regulating the health care companies?

And it's not like Obama can claim ignorance there, because he knew all of that and still chose to nominate Daschle.

I guess if you break a lamp over someone's head and then apologize profusely for breaking the lamp, some people will forget that you broke it when you smashed it over someone's head.

    Obama: 'i Screwed Up'

OK, so I don't agree with Obama on much, and believe that his agenda is not what is best for America, but I have to say that he earned my respect today. Not since Ronald Reagan, has a leader aggressively taken responsibility for screwing something up. Always excuses, blaming someone else, or passing the buck. I must say that this is refreshing. Not that this will change my mind on many of his programs, which I still feel are the wrong solution, but it is good to see a politician, even if it is a Democrat, show that he has a little of the Gipper in him. It might only be a small bit, but it's a start, and the buck DOES stop with the president.

    Thank you Mr. President.

    Article is here.
