MySpace: 90,000 sex offenders removed from site

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - MySpace officials say about 90,000 sex offenders have been identified and removed from its huge online social networking Web site.

North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper said Tuesday the new figure is nearly double what MySpace officials originally acknowledged last year when detailing who had used their site. Cooper and Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal have led the charge seeking efforts to make social networking Web sites safer. MySpace officials sent the numbers to Blumenthal's office Tuesday.
can't exactly say i am surprised at the numbers.
will the ACLU step in and take this up

I wonder if these people had all molested children they met on the internet, or if MySpace just obtained lists of "sex offenders" and banned them all. The whole "sex offender" label is really harmful to our society and our justice system, because it means so many different things. People can get tagged as sex offenders for stupid **** even if they don't pose a danger to anyone.

With that said, if MySpace actually investigated each of these people before they banned them and determined that they were a potential threat, then I think it's good. However, it's so easy to create a MySpace page without any accurate personal information that those people will probably be back before long.
    Are you coming to bed?
    I can't. This is important.

Yeah I've read about people being labeled as a "sex offender" for some pretty bull**** reasons. Like owning sex toys...in the wrong county.
And why does your tone suggest that you do not care about children?

Good points. There are people who are registered as sex offenders because they were urinating in public or because they were 17 and having sex with a 15 year old.

Also, someone who is a sex offender against adults likely poses little risk of sex offense against teens.

Let's also not overlook the fact that some of these folks may have been on the site for the intended purpose of the site, social networking rather than stalking prey.

The cynic in me thinks that this is a mostly useless gesture. Anyone who is intent on stalking would probably not be using their real name, a name that can be searched on sex offender databases.

Or getting caught pissing in the bushes by a park ranger while out on a hiking trip.

Now who will send me glittery pictures saying that I'm fly?
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

If they were men, they probably deserved it. Only women should own sex toys.
