Daschle withdraws nomination for HHS job

This is news?

So basically your opposition to Geithner has nothing to do with his taxes, and everything to do with his political ideology (which really isn't particularly left-wing). Your intellectual dishonesty is duly noted.

Truth Detector said:
Because you say so; but then, your notion of Secretary of Treasury would be someone who believes in the naive and foolish politics Obama represents thinking that a Government can BORROW go deep into DEBT and PRINT MONEY to get us out of a recession.

Exactly.

I'm curious, what qualifications does Steve Forbes possess to run the Treasury Department?

WOW! That is quite the leap in logic based on what I posted. But then you just wanted to take a partisan hack at me and don’t care about the facts right?

My opposition to Geitner is that I cannot see supporting someone, no matter how intelligent he may be, to take over a Government Department that manages the Governments finances and who can't manage his own taxes and breaks our laws. Tax evasion is illegal you know.

Yes, I know, it was a simple mistake to forget to pay taxes for so many years, but if this is the smartest man on the block, we have bigger issues.

I'm curious, what qualifications does Steve Forbes possess to run the Treasury Department?

First and foremost, he is not a tax evader; Secondly, he knows finance better than anyone on the face of the planet, in my opinion, and last, but never least; he doesn't believe that spending the Government into a 2 trillion dollar deficit makes any sense.

I am a pretty simple logical guy; if you are going to tell me that the man who will be responsible for the countries finances is the smartest man on the block, yet can't even figure out how to pay his own taxes, I am going to be very skeptical about his qualifications and his motivations.

As to your partisan crack about ideology, why would I want someone in the job who doesn't have the same political ideology as me? Do you really think this job is not a political one?

Here's a great article he wrote you should read:

I don't know much about some of those people, but a long list of governors is probably not the best option. A member of Congress would be much better for this job, since they would know all the people they would need to persuade and understand how Washington works.

Howard Dean would be particularly divisive, and there's too much potential for infighting between him and Rahm Emanuel. Health care reform is too important to let petty bickering delay it.

I love a person who can admit mistakes. Wow. :wow: I am utterly impressed. This is change I can believe in.

WASHINGTON - “I screwed up,” President Barack Obama told NBC’s Brian Williams Tuesday in the wake of his nominee to be secretary of health and human services, Tom Daschle, withdrawing his name from consideration.

Daschle dropped out after acknowledging that he had belatedly paid more than $128,000 in taxes owed to the federal government.

“Today was an embarrassment for us,” Obama said. He said he was “angry,” “disappointed” and “frustrated with myself” over the Daschle episode.

It would be nice to have Howard Dean in a position of responsibility. I wondered how long it would take Daschle to get under the bus. It's one thing to overlook a tax payment, but this guy seems to be in the pocket of some big corporate interests.

It appears that it doesn't take much to impress you. For me, I would be more impressed if he had the brains to not try to shove tax evaders down our throats in the first place.

I mean come on, the man is the smartest dude in the universe, and didn’t he vet these tax evaders before nominating them? Wouldn't that be the smartest man on the block thing to do?

No Aps, you are still star struck by your perceived change, Obama didn't apologize for making a mistake, his nominees got caught breaking the law and now he's covering up for it.

It’s amusing; for Liberals it’s not about results, it’s about how you feel. And if you are Liberal and break the law, then apologize for it, all is forgiven it was a simple mistake that anyone could have made; meanwhile, they impugn Carl Rove and suggest he was the Wiz behind the curtain creating chaos, George Bush suggesting that he should have managed a natural disaster and war without error and Rush Limbaugh for having the audacity of getting addicted to pain killers, and why you might ask, for the simple reason they don’t like their political philosophy.

I think Howard Dean would be a good Secretary of HHS...but only if that job is decoupled from the "health czar" role now that Daschle is out. I do NOT want Howard Dean going up to the hill to meet with congressmen on health care reform, or trying to work with Rahm Emanuel on that. Dean's a great public servant and I'm sure he would be a strong advocate for health care reform...but his personality is not suited to that particular job.

The democRATic party is a gigantic magnet for inocent little criminal types. Hillary never participated in world banks colapsing in the 80s. Bill didn`t rape any women. Janet Rino didn`t order the slaughter of women and children at Waco. Liberals have perfected the inocent whine . It works more often than not for them. Blagoijovich didn`t get it right though but he was "inocent". Oh and Bill ,"didn`t have sex with that woman".

It would be nice to have Howard Dean behind bars.

But you will forgive a president who mobilized the military under false pretenses, then allowed 4000 of our men and women in uniform to die, thousands more become injured physically and mentally. Yeh, you have quite a set of morals there.

You see why I have Rodney on "ignore"?

Not to mention the civilians whose lives have been affected both here and abroad.

While it is good Daschle dropped out. Its already too late.

The Treasury Secretary is a Tax Evader AND Daschle isn't going to get in trouble for what he did.

Obama message to the American people in both cases has been 100% clear.

I wonder if Obama's generosity towards tax evasion will extend to the rest of us when he raises our taxes to hell and gone to pay for the immense amount of spending he intends to change the USA into the USSA.

BTW it doesn't..your taxes will pay the salaries of tax evaders.

Much like Clinton Obama is already putting forward a value system that harms society. We're still suffering the effect of accepting outright lies and letting a person lie under oath do to Clinton.

These are beyond merely not saying you sent arms to x or the usual political stuff. This is base level acceptance of behavior that any average American usually goes to prison for. Its a character flaw.

With Clinton it was "cover my ass"..with Obama its "glorify my ass".

....
As for the Iraq thing..you guys lost..your going to abandon millions of people to mass murdering teorrist..you have nothing to stand on.
Oh the civilians!..
You mean the people whose deaths you use as an excuse to abandon them to those who murder them.

Your high minded morality is a fraud to shroud the reality of what you intend.

This is BO's MO. Declare undying support until they become too big of an embarrassment. Then, throw them under the bus.
