I say give him a break. He's young and pot smoking is a thing that is common among young people.

Yeah that's exactly what I thought when I heard this.

He is at that age when people do that stuff.

But I guess people are making it a big deal because they wonder how it will affect his performance in London 2012.

Also always teach your kids that all of these folks are simply human and do have their faults and own personal failures.
In theory I don't disagree with you. However, in reality it isn't that simple. I don't know what your sports background is, but when a kid is really into a sport, they not only play it, but they seek to emulate the stars in their sport - both in their performace and their lifestyle to the point they can.

When I was a young, I was a star soccer player and runner at the youth, high school and college level. Growing up, I looked up to the great athletes in my sports like Diego Maradona (someone who turned out to be a disgrace outside the sport equal to his brilliance on the field) and Alberto Salazar, who was in fact a great role model for kids.

When you live a sport, you eat, live, and breath it. You have their posters on your wall and watch what they do. Honestly, when I was a kid, I spent more time on the soccer pitch and on the roads than with my parents. Sad, but that is the reality in sports - even at the youth level.

You really did touch on another big problem in reguards to kids wanting to emulate these sport stars in their performace and their lifestyle to the point they can. The sad reality is that most of these kids will never make it to play pro-whatever sports and they dang sure will not go on to make millions and millions to live the high lifestyle that some of these star athletes are living.

I know so many kids that really think they can just do good in sports and then go onto the pros when it is not really gonna happen for most of them. I am not saying kill your kids dreams but keep it real for them and let em know the chances are slim and that they should focus more on getting a good education other than hoping to become the next Sports Super Star.

We are in complete agreement on this point. I, for example, sufferred from a knee injury that essentially ended by dreams of playing professional soccer, but because I was a good student and with the university education my soccer skills enabled me to get, I have a life and future post-soccer that I may not have had otherwise. I have seen a number of kids who focused all out on sports and then don't have a second option when it doesn't pan out.

That is one reason I admire and respect people like Tiger Woods, among many others, who are exceptional athletes, good role models, and performed in the classroom to boot.

Whiff of change in US medical marijuana policy - Boston.com

WASHINGTON—The White House won't say it explicitly. Neither will the Drug Enforcement Administration. Yet there is a whiff in the air that U.S. policy is about to change when it comes to medical marijuana.

The message is clear, said UCLA professor Mark Kleiman, a former Justice Department official and an expert on crime and drug policy.

"It is no longer federal policy to beat up on hippies," said Kleiman.

Kellogg Customers More Concerned With Phelps Than Tainted Peanut Butter (AUDIO)

The Kellogg Company may have thought it was making the smart public-relations play by announcing it was not renewing its contract with Michael Phelps, the Olympic gold-medalist photographed taking a bong hit at a South Carolina party.

Kellogg customers, it turns out, are more interested in that decision than they are concerned about the ongoing peanut butter recall.
I called. If you are a stoner you should call up Kellogg too. It was real easy and the lady listened nice and patiently as I gave her an earful.

"How DARE you.... How DARE you... That man is a hero. Screw Kellogg's. My whole family will never eat any Kellogg's ever again."

I thought it was fun and funny. I hope the she thought the same.

LoL! Complaining about Phelps is first over peanut butter. It's the first option the automated system hits you with. (800-962-1413)

Phelps sponsors that drop him need to be ashamed of themselves.

Subway supports Michael Phelps - Game on - USATODAY.com

The Michael Phelps saga continues to surprise. After cereal and snack marketer Kellogg's said it would not resign the Olympic hero as an endorser due to his now infamous bong photo, some speculated fellow sponsor Subway would follow suit.

Surprise. After days of silence, Subway said Friday night it was supporting the Olympic swimming star.

"Like most Americans, and like Michael Phelps himself, we were disappointed in his behavior," Subway said in a statement. "Also like most Americans, we accept his apology. Moving forward, he remains in our plans."
Winds of change are at hand? Or bull****?

The American people forgave Bill Cliton...,oh, but he didn`t inhale. If we let pot use ruin everyone who used the stuff the unemployment rate would be something like 40%. This mornings news had the story about, everyone else at the party being arrested. I never thought it was a great crime when Cliton admitted pot use , it was lieing about it that was the crime. Hell plead the 5th..., I do, on this one.

If Jesus had turned the wheat into marijuana at the wedding this wouldn't be an issue.

Alcohol can be so much worse for some people than marijuana. I've never had any friends ruin their lives because of pot smoking.

My husband was telling me he saw somewhere the company that he sponsors for the watches isn't dropping him because he is wearing one of the watches in the picture. I thought that was pretty dang funny.
I call my own shots, largely based on an accumulation of data, and everyone knows it.
