The legislation, which would send tax credits of $500 per worker and $1,000 per couple, expressly disqualifies nonresident aliens, but it would allow people who don't have Social Security numbers to be eligible for the checks.

Undocumented immigrants who are not eligible for a Social Security number can file tax returns with an alternative number. A House-passed version of the economic recovery bill and one making its way through the Senate would allow anyone with such a number, called an individual taxpayer identification number, to qualify for the tax credits.

Do you think illegal aliens should get bailout money?

    Absolutely NOT!

I actually hope the Senate makes some serious changes to this legislation and not just with respect to this issue. According to two, different economists, this bill is not going to create jobs. Sorry, but in my opinion, that is a necessity to any stimulus bill.

No, but if they're paying taxes I can't say that I mind them getting a tax credit all that much

The only thing illegals should get is a one way trip back to their home country(unless they committed certain crimes, then they should serve time for those crimes and then get deported).Preferably the farthest place away from the US border.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

How many illegal aliens have registered to pay taxes? I could count them on one hand. Republicans are outraged by the possibility of illegal immigrants being aided by the stimulus package, but they had no problem with failed bank executives receiving "bonuses" from taxpayer money. The Republican leadership not only has short memories, they seem to change priorities en masse. It was only last September they urged Congress to approve a massive bailout package with no questions asked, or as Mitch McConnel put it:

“When there’s a fire in your kitchen threatening to burn down your home, you don’t want someone stopping the firefighters on the way and demanding they hand out smoke detectors first or lecturing you about the hazards of keeping paint in the basement,” Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, said in a speech on the Senate floor. “You want them to put out the fire before it burns down your home and everything you’ve saved for your whole life.”

Mr. McConnell added: “The same is true of our current economic situation. We know that there is a serious threat to our economy, and we know that we must take action to try and head off a serious blow to Main Street.”
    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/23/bu...blicans&st=cse

That bailout passed with bi-partisan support, and now we see that it accomplished little except paying for corporate jets, executive bonuses, trips to the Caribbean and $6,000 toilets. But when the Democrats ask for bi-partisan cooperation in passing a bill that is intended to actually help those who need it, Republicans turn their backs as one.

The Republican's motives are clear, they will not cooperate in any Democratic legislation, and will do whatever they can to encourage the failure of the Obama administration. The President has bent over backward to include Republican participation in this legislation package, he seems to have wasted his time.

Both bailouts are bad. This one is far worse.

How can you say that? The Bush bailout simply handed the treasury over to bank executives and stock manipulators. None of the money is being circulated in the economy. The proposed stimulus package is designed to put money into the hands of people who will spend it.

you know Wall Street gave out bonuses equivalent to about the amount given out in 2004 this year.

When the DOW was about 10k.

Just to put this in perspective.
And why does your tone suggest that you do not care about children?

This is an example of the failure of any bailout.
