No offense here, but what freaking business is it yours, mine or the federal government if a business wants to spend 50 million a jet or bonuses or whatever while laying people off? I mean seriously. It's a PRIVATE BUSINESS.

If you don't like how it's run... don't shop/do business with em.

It's none of our business. IF they run themselves into the ground, instead of saving them we should let em fall.

Instead we went the opposite direction.

I wasn't aware that Citi Group was required to keep jobs... is that their function? To provide a paycheck to workers? Hmmm? Is that the PURPOSE of Businesses in your mind?

A business that over spends on worthless items, treats it's employees bad and offers a sub par product... why they tend to fall. You have this misguided, childish view of what a business is supposed to do.

Replaced by Government Bureaucracy? No thanks, that's been tried, and fails every time. But hey, when you are stuck on "emotion" and not thought, I guess it makes sense to have the government take over.

You are forgetting about something here. It is the government that prints/backs the money.

See? A way around every scandal.
Maybe they can rented it out to Algore.

    I'm forgetting nothing.

Prior to the asnine bail outs, what does it matter what others do with the money they earn. Government does NOT create wealth. Ever.

This is why the bail out scam is so... dangerous.

Under pressure from investors, its chairman and chief executive, Charles O. Prince III, will either layoff or reassign more than 26,000 jobs as part of a broad effort to cut costs and streamline the bank’s unwieldy global operations.

Citigroup is planning to shed 10,000 to 12,000 jobs this year, according to people briefed on the situation. Some 14,000 additional positions will be lost to attrition or relocated from high-cost locations — including London, Hong Kong and New York, where the company is based — to less expensive areas like India, Buffalo, Cincinnati and northern New Jersey.

Roughly 8 percent of the company’s 327,000 employees, fanned out across the globe, could be affected.
So they have massive layoffs in 2007 then, in January 2008 they decide to buy a new jet? Go on, please make some more excuses...

Why are the two incongruous? You do realize that businesses are not monolithic entities that always act in the same direction, right? Plenty of businesses hire people while losing money and vice versa.

Or, did you ever think that might be possible that the $50m cost of buying this plane was offset by the $54m they're getting from selling their two other jets?

Well looky here, you actually did make another excuse... amazing. A normal business owner might say, gee I have to lay off or otherwise adversely effect 130k+ employess, maybe I should sell the 2 jets and fly first class, thereby saving $50 million and fire fewer people. But no, not these guys right? God forbid they should lower themselves to flying first class on *eck* commercial airlines and keep a few jobs...

    Any more excuses?

You're right, those are the only two options. You've just got it all figured out.

One that accepted government money to keep from going bankrupt. Obviously you don't see the problem of greed in economics. First off it's a not a private company because it is publicly traded. So it is expected to make good choices by it's shareholders and frankly, if you're buying jets and paying outrageous salaries and bonuses while your business is failing, then wouldn't you think that's a problem?

If you don't like how it's run... don't shop/do business with em.
I don't but that didn't prevent me from being effected by their bad business practices now did it?

I agree 100%. Unfortunately Paulson and his cadre of corporatists told us how horrible the consequences would be if we didn't give them the money. MORE wrongheaded economics from the rightwing.

I wasn't aware that Citi Group was required to keep jobs... is that their function? To provide a paycheck to workers? Hmmm? Is that the PURPOSE of Businesses in your mind?
The purpose of business today or yesterday? Yesterday companies had a sense of responsibility to their employees and their community. Yesterday, corporations weren't allowed to do business in ways that are harmful to the country. Today however, the republicans convinced the sheeple that greed is good, money is all anyone needs so you better get yours anyway you can. Don't worry about the consequences because if you make enough before the business fails, well, you'll be just fine.

A business that over spends on worthless items, treats it's employees bad and offers a sub par product... why they tend to fall. You have this misguided, childish view of what a business is supposed to do.
No I have a realistic view. Wal-mart sells subpar products all day long but because we've been told we have to have things we don't need and can't afford, we buy the junk anyway. EVEN THOUGH we know that buying from wal-mart is bad for our country.

Replaced by Government Bureaucracy? No thanks, that's been tried, and fails every time. But hey, when you are stuck on "emotion" and not thought, I guess it makes sense to have the government take over.
I never said that. We need some good old fashioned protectionism with our economy. "America first" should be our motto.
