BBC NEWS | Europe | Pope move ignites Holocaust row

How can anyone who claims to be able to have a reasonable and sane mind actually condone a Holocaust denier?
And yet, here we have once again the Holy Roman Catholic Church in it's wisdom doing just that.
Typical hypocrisy from a typically hypocritical Church headed by an obviously unrepentant Nazi.

I have lowered my expectations when it comes to the Catholic Church. First it was priestly sexual abuse with children. Then came the hypocritical condemnation of the "pursuit of wealth". I guess it is quite telling that this hardly even phases me.

The Papacy is a long-standing joke between Christians. It's only recently that the walls of a "laughing-matter" have fallen down. Back in the day, when Europe was rampantly Christian, the Papal States mattered. Now... who do they do again?

I came so close to making a reference to the walls falling down and that of little altar boy's pants, but I hold myself to higher standards.

haha

Talk about an idiotic thread. This has nothing to do with a belief that the holocaust (or Sheol) never existed. This is about lifting an order for excommunication, NOT condoning their personal beliefs.

From the link in the OP:

Bishop Richard Williamson recently told Swedish TV: "I believe there were no gas chambers. I think that two to three hundred thousand Jews perished in Nazi concentration camps but none of them by gas chambers."

The Vatican has distanced itself from those remarks.

But its spokesman, Rev Federico Lombardi, still stood by the decision to rehabilitate Bishop Williamson and the others.

"This act regards the lifting of the excommunications, period," he told reporters.

"It has nothing to do with the personal opinions of a person, which are open to criticism, but are not pertinent to this decree."

Of course, facts like this will do nothing to assuage those with an irrational hatred for the Roman Catholic Church.

The papacy - distanced itself from those remarks. But it still rehabilitated him knowing he'd made such remarks and held such positions. Seems pretty ****ed up anyway you look at it.

All the Papacy did was lift excommunication. Do you know what this means? Does this mean that everyone who receives the Sacrament on Sundays agrees with EVERYTHING the Papacy teaches? I don't agree with the Pope on everything, yet in a few hours, I will be partaking of the Eucharistic Sacrament. THis is much ado about nothing.

Unless of course you believe that people don't have the right to believe what they want to. This is NOT a religious matter, thus it is not grounds for excommunication.

This whole thread is hate speech and I reported it as such.

Yes because saying anything against the pope is hate speech to you right?

Gimme a break, I don't see you reporting posts against hate speech against Muslims. Hypocrisy at it's best folks, revel in it.

Not really. Biblically it is the Christian thing to do. We state that we disagree with the person and then we take the person and try to counsel/reason with them.

Whether protestant or Catholic it is the proper thing to do. We should not aboandon our brothers and sisters in Christ but rather offer fellowship and healing.

Read the thread. It isn't the comments about the Pope. Felicity summed it up pretty well. Clear hate speech and a clear violation of the rule. Of course, since it is PC to be anti-Catholic, it will possibly be ignored.

You misquoted me. i mentioned I thought about saying it, but I hold myself to higher standards. Is thinking that almost everything the Pope stands for is a complete joke, and racist to those his position knowingly decimated under the name of the Holy-Cross and European greed a crime? Are you trying to insinuate that because I am outwardly spiteful of a man who makes a living off of his religion that I am causing problems with you and your religious beliefs? IF joking is make an a siege on your religion, then I think there are more dire problems then someone joking about your religion. You are not using the rules of this forum to protect people on this forum, you are using the rules ot protect yourself. And if this sounds aggrivated, then why yes it is.

So would it be fine if I said "I thought about calling you an asshole, but I hold myself to higher standards?" Yeah...right.

DW ,I don`t dispute your remark,I would however say, that the cancer has metastisyzed from other points in christianity over the past few hundred years. I love what god accomplished here ,but christians need to do better ,if they are to do better.

No. It's fine actually. I am perfectly fine with you calling me an asshole. Please, don't refrain.

All mods get this. I give Felicity all rights to call me whatever hateful, and spiteful things (she?) can think of. I have many more problems to worry about then someone on a forum calling me an asshole.

The only thing I see is maybe a personal attack when he said "YOU", but other than that it is no worse than what I have seen others say about the Muslim religion sorry.

EDIT: change that, it was said about the pope, so not a personal attack, nothing wrong I see compared to what others have said about Muslims.

see...but I actually DO hold myself to a higher standard, so I won't be lowering myself to your level.

Too bad the guy you choose to call your brother in the name of Christianity is a Holocaust denier. But hey. More power to you I guess.

Well that's wrong too. I certainly don't engage in that evil.

You're missing the point entirely. You made an inflammatory comment in reference to the Catholic Church; that you qualified the statement with some kind of excuse does nothing to alter this. The mature thing to do would be to simply retract your statement and apologize. People admit mistakes all the time and if this forum's perception of you means as little as you say it does then feel free to prove it by setting your ego aside and admitting your fault.

see...but I actually DO hold myself to a higher standard, so I won't be lowering myself to your level.

Then could you please stop complaining about us attacking your 2nd lord and savior? And find a way to defend such a public figure, or is the bad part of this that what we are saying is partially true.

Please be aware that I am not trying to unsettle you, or make fun of you as a person. I am sure you are a kind person, and mean no disrespect to you as a person, and I accept your rights to believe in anything you want to, as long as it is not harming another.

Now with that done, I mean complete disrespect to the position of the Pope.
