My Way News - News access issues concern those covering Obama

NEW YORK (AP) - News organizations that cover the White House sparred with the Obama administration on Thursday over access issues for photographers and rules for briefings.

Representatives from Obama's press office held a conference call with photo editors, who are concerned that the administration prefers distributing photos taken by a White House photographer in cases where photojournalists have been permitted access in the past. It was unclear whether the two sides had reached any accommodation.

The Associated Press, Reuters and Agence France-Presse refused to distribute photos taken by the White House of the new president on his first day in the Oval Office because of the dispute. Still photographers were also not given access to Obama's do-over oath of office administered Wednesday night by Chief Justice John Roberts and an economics meeting on Thursday.

Television network bureau chiefs also protested the exclusion of video cameras from the second oath of office.

So wait, is this part of that "openess" that he campaigned on? Seems there are a lot of bumps in the road here so far....

What do you think of the press and thier complaints here?

I agree with what Dee Dee Myers said about similar behavior during The Clintons reign. "Rookie mistake".

Actually it seems like there is a thread about every little minor annoyance you can possibly dredge up.

They are valid complaints.

Oh noes....no pictures of Obama...I wonder if it's because he's waterboarding people in the oval office with Roberts by his side screaming 'It's permissible!'

I think that for some time the press has been blocked from doing its job. I think in terms of press access it should be less up to the President and his administration to decide. What stops a President from preventing press members from coming back if they ask the "wrong" question? The press is an important tool of the People, and we need it to be able to operate freely around the government and its officials so that they can properly report the actions of government so that the People can better control the government. But good luck with that happening, you'd need a President of real integrity to isolate the press from the wrath of the President.

So you troll me about my thread and call it a "minor annoyance"

Then you say thier complaints are valid?

Why must you Obama messiah types troll every thread?

Nothing to contribute as usual? noted.

I simply answered your question. The complaints are valid, sure. I think the press should be allowed to take pictures in the White House unless there's some specific security/confidentiality reason. However, you didn't ask if I care that much about it, or whether I was more annoyed by the photo-ban or the fact that you created a thread about it.

The threat provides nothing to contribute to. The openness Obama was talking about was about the government being at press meeting and not avoiding questions or the government being see through about it's dealings with companies like Haliburton etc etc. But I guess you're more interested in seeing what Obama is doing while taking and oath.
