Another, Wow, just, wow..

When I was in the US I used best buy, thats a fabulous store, but a question arises from my memory... Didn't circuit city use to be "the big one" before, a pioneer in electronics sales? Amazing how things change and their business is now completely dead..

Circuit City wasn't near as great as Best Buy. Their greatest product was Camera's, and even Best Buy could beat them in that area. They were expected to close due to losing customers to other competitors. This IS a surprise and quicker than expected, however, make no mistake, this is a sign of an economy going under.

Free market at work. They took risks to maximize profit, and when the economic situation soured they were caught with their pants down. It sucks, but it happens.

No. They started out in 1949 as "Wards" an appliance store. They were no more "the big one" than say Sears. They did not expand into a full blown electronics store until 1981. They changed the corporate name to "Circuit City" around 84' I think. The only thing that is "Wow" about this is it did not happen sooner. They have been having trouble since 2003.

You assume the US has free-market? We has a mixed-economy last time I checked.

Oh FFS. We have a "Free market system" I'm not gonna argue the finer points of that WHEN IT DOESN'T MATTER to the situation at hand.

Guess I'm glad they didn't hire me. Hate to lose another job to store closure...

It's what happens during a recession. Business fail. This is partly just due to the nature of the situation, and partly due to companies pushing for maximum profit margins. Which works great when things are chugging along just fine, your company bets things won't slow down and the management believes it can react to a changing economy and lower the risk. However, as you have seen, that doesn't always work out so.

No, I mean in the past.. In like the 70s and 80s, circuit city was the "big one", yeah?
