Nah.. Those 1000 candidates are there by their own will and not picked by the supreme leaders, all of them just have to go through their approval. Just like anyone who actually want to be elected in the US have to be approved either by the democrats of the republicans.

And the both parties consist of about 40% of the US electorate respectively, while in Iran the candidates are chosen by a single person.

And out of those 1000 the Supreme Leader picks the ones he likes. Sure a 1000 people sign up for the chance at his approval, but that still doesn't help your case that Iran is in the least bit democratic.

Now you are talking about the primaries. I am talking about becoming a candidate for the primary and be in a primary for one of the two parties, then you have to be accepted by the party "leadership/committee" first, not the whole party and all its voters.
Dont spin this anymore, you perfectly well know my point is valid.

Max, your point truly isn't valid.

Literally anyone can apply to be President. All they have to do is get the required number of signatures on their petition. Yes, it would be harder if you're just an average joe trying to get signatures to get on the primary ballot in all fifty states, but everyone still has the opportunity.

Yes it is, the leaders and the parliament is elected in a relatively free process, just like all the democracies of the west are also in a relatively free process.
In most democracies in Europe, prime minister candidates are directly nominated by the party as the party leader and prime minister candidate, none of the people have a say in this. They elect the party with the leader as an "automatic" leader. Nowhere in history has any party lost a huge amount of voters because of their selection of party leader and prime minister candidate.

How many times do you have to read it, Max? It is not a free election if 100% of the candidates have to be approved by a single person.

Parties in Europe aren't just one person. They are made up of thousands if not millions of people who all have a say in that choice. And if they don't like the candidate put forth they are free to vote for a candidate who could have wildly dissimilar views.

Perhaps you dont have a clue.. Ever thought about that? I know Iran is repressive and a bad country. But still, it is a democracy.

And the main point here is that their leader, the president is elected by the people. The same guy who said those things about Israel.

The council is 12 people.. No, its not 100% free, nor is elections in the US nor Europe, like I have demonstrated. And that is because of "parties".
But Irans leader is democratically elected, and Iran is a democracy, just like European countries and the US.. Perhaps not as many %, but it certainly is democratic.
