Obama inauguration to air in theaters

Obama inauguration to air in theaters

NEW YORK -- President-elect Barack Obama is on his way to the big screen, thanks to a deal between MSNBC and Screenvision that will put the news channel's inaugural coverage in 27 theaters around the country.

Free tickets are being handed out via MSNBC.com to see the inauguration and parade from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. ET at the 27 theaters run by 11 exhibitor partners in 21 markets. Midday Tuesday isn't necessarily a big movie time, so it helps to fill the theater -- and boost popcorn and soda sales -- at a time when it's not usually busy.

Ok now this is getting ridiculous. Here we have MSNBC giving out FREE tickets so people can go to theaters to see the inauguration. I guess MSNBC has given up on journalism and is now not shy about being the mouthpice of the Obama presidency....

Imagine if FOX news did this......

Meh I don't see what's wrong with this. They'll probably get some sweet advertising deals for it, and at least those people aren't going to DC. It'd be a nice alternative to having such a huge inauguration, if only that's what it was.

Whether you are a fan of Obama or not, this is an historic inauguration. There are tons of people across the US who wish they could be there, so they are making it a little more special for those people who can't. What's your beef with MSNBC? It's not like they are charging people money for tickets. Sure, they are cashing in on it because it gets their name out there. I don't really see what the big deal is.

And no, I wouldn't think it was a big deal if Fox News did it. Though, with Bush I don't think there were a bunch of people dying to see it because it wasn't as historic.

I totally agree with bolded part.

I was planning on having a threesome to celebrate this historic event in American history, but my wife said no. I called her a racist.

So you believe that this is what a news organization is for?

What's your beef with MSNBC?

It's giddyness and tingly sensations it gets for Obama.

It's not like they are charging people money for tickets.

I would have more respect for them if they did. Now they are simply being the mouth piece for the obama presidency.

Not to sure about that.

I don't really see what the big deal is.

Its not a big deal other than to counter the anti-Fox crowd. ;)

So you believe that this is what a news organization is for?

Well, a news organization is supposed to document and report news, so yeah, this is what a news organization is for.

Its not a big deal other than to counter the anti-Fox crowd.

Well, considering the conservative bias of Fox, it would be more of a big deal for Fox to do something like this than MSNBC, obviously. I'm sure you'd be as surprised as me if Fox did something like this for this inauguration. We both know it won't happen, and we both know why.

I wonder if they'll show it in 3-D IMAX.

Well, a news organization is supposed to document and report news, so yeah, this is what a news organization is for.

You mean instead of showing it on the tv like they always have, they need to go back to the news reels of old for this special event?

Please.

Wait, so you first say, this is msnbc reporting the news, then you bash fox for not doing this because of thier bias? :doh:lol:

Since when have news organizations had an agenda of honesty and integrity? Seriously, what country have you been living in? This is a capitalist society and everyone is an opportunist. They are most likely doing it to get some free advertising. I suspect any news organization would have done the same if given the opportunity. Not everything is purely politically motivated.

It's giddyness and tingly sensations it gets for Obama.

That may be what you see. What I see is a news organization taking part in an historic event in an effort to get some free advertising.

I would have more respect for them if they did. Now they are simply being the mouth piece for the obama presidency.

Why? Because they are offering people who are unable to attend the inauguration a chance to see it on the big screen for free? Yes, those horrible bastards!

Not to sure about that.

Well, of course you won't see it that way because you think this weird notion that people being excited about an historic inauguration means that they are swooning and drooling over the guy himself like he's the messiah. Yeah, that material got old during election season. It's time to get some new stuff. The guy won. Deal with it.

Its not a big deal other than to counter the anti-Fox crowd. ;)

And I knew that's precisely what you were going for. :2wave:

Your powers of deduction are Uncanny sir. I mean you figured that out all by your self. I mean it must have been near impossible for you to deduce that given the fact that I nearly stated as such in my first post!

You matlock you!

It's sad that you lack substance so much that you always end up resorting to baiting and trolling.

Will you relax. I thought the use of smileys would let you know I was teasing you..... :rofl

I saw the smileys, but I thought you were being snarky. It's hard to denote tone through text, so I apologize for overreacting.

It is a good thing for people who want to see the inauguration to get an opportunity to do so. But before you condemn the Reverend's post, you should realize that News organizations are supposed to be impartial.

My question is this - Is MSNBC going to end up being a political propaganda arm of the Obama administration, as FOX News was for the Bush administration? That is the danger, and even if it doesn't happen, just the appearance of bias detracts from MSNBC's reputation.

Did you ask her why she hates our freedom?

How come you capitalized "Fox" but didn't "obama presidency"?

How is covering the inauguration equal being a mouthpiece for Obama?

Once again, Rev is starting with a conclusion and working backwards.

Is there a Republican President being inaugurated that they aren't covering?

Or does this mean that they can't try something from our past for this historic inauguration?

There is a great demand to see this inauguration. Many think it will be a "Where were you when..." moment. I wanted to go to it. I decided it wouldn't be worth the crowd and weather.

I doubt I would ever have that desire for another Presidential inauguration.

What do you mean, "end up being" a mouth piece, did they pretend at anytime to be anything else but?

News organizations shouldn't be in the business of PR Parties for "historical events" their job is to report the news, not make it. To say what's going on, not craft it before hand. That's my problem with this, and it shows the level of journalism and how the public perceives it that this is happening.

Holy ****ing ****. You know, I was really hoping i would like Obama, I was. I was hoping that maybe he could win me over with deeds.

But he's certainly not going to do it with ****ing bull**** stunts like this. What a goddamn waste of time and money, and just how egotistical IS he anyway?

What are you on about?

Obama isn't putting this on. The demand to see his inauguration isn't a product of any hubris from him.

Why are you so quick to blame him for this?

MSNBC and Screenvision is putting this on.

Yes, I'm sure he had nothing at all to do with it.

Well, with your mind all made up like that...;)

How is he able to create all of this demand to see it?

I bet he's getting a spray on tan right now. :2razz:
