    Very true. Yet, it should not take that much money to make that happen. They should have set a strict modest budget and stuck to it. They can make a huge deal out of it and have a great inaguration on the cheap, they just don't want to. They enjoy spending frivolously to show they don't give a damn.

    If you are planning a big birthday party for yourself and are given a $500 budget, are you going to then plan a $500,000 party and just expect your family then to make up the difference because you feel you deserve it? Get real people, and put this into perspective.

    Just "how" can you do such an inauguration on the cheap?

    Keep it low key and just a small affair. An inaguration does not need to be such a lavish affair, especially in these times. As someone already mentioned something about televising it and doing a small ball instead of an extremely lavish one. Will people even remember this twenty years from now? Maybe us, the middle class people, who will be footing the bill from all this Washington "we don't give a damn" spending right now.

    One has to wonder why this was not done when Bush was sworn in .. twice.. Since Republicans are suppose to be fiscally responsible.. oh wait, Reagan had a big one too.. same with Bush Sr.... After all the US was in recession when Bush came to office.... same with Reagan.....

    So now because its a black man that is getting put in the highest office and the US is in an economic downturn, then all of a sudden it has to be barebones swearing in?

    It seems to me, that some on the right are doing everything they can to show that electing the first black man to the highest office is "nothing special".. well the million plus people coming to Washington, and the billion plus people who will watch the whole thing, disagree with them. Yes the party should be big, and lavish and show the world that this is something special.. and it might just might make American's and the world feel a bit better about the good old US of A.. of course the people on the right will see it as the downfall of civilization, but then again they lost.. and lost big time and screwed up the economy the last decade to such a degree that it is now this young, competent black man that has to clean up their horrible mess.

    For you neo-cons to now cry about how much something costs, after defending Bush's spending spree his 1st 6 years in office taking us from the biggest surplus to the biggest deficit in U.S. history, rings a little hollow, like a bunch of cry babies who can't stand the idea of being totally without any power for the next 8 years. . I don't remember seeing any of this faux outrage over all the wasted millions we gave to Cheney's Hallibuton.

    Link to "State of Emergency"?
    Like Hatuey, you have a serious comprehension problem to go along with your incoherent diatribe;

    The issue for Conservatives is the blatant hypocrisy on the Left and in the media which chastised Bush for spending a mere $40 million but now applaud 3 1/2 times that spending because it happens to be THIER guy.

    I am hardly surprised you cannot comprehend the issue; it would not fit your narrow hyper partisan dialogue.

    Obama's inauguration is going to cost at least four times what Bush's did, and five times what Clinton's did. You can't even compare the costs. It's extravagant and unnecessary.

    The only thing that exceeds your incoherent blathering is your ability to pull straw men out of thin air.

    Yeah that's it Pete, it's because he is black. Carry on.

    No it needs to be downsized because of the economic downturn.

    I voted for Obama, but I wish he would downsize this event to a televised event and show the country how committed he really is to helping the economy and reigning in government spending.

    That would say a lot to me.
