No explanation of the name has been offered, but the Baby Name Wizard defines it as "derived from the Hebrew seraphim (burning ones), a name used in the Bible for the heavenly winged angels surrounding the throne of God."

Yeah. Dumb name. Of retarded proportions. The highest ranking angels? What? Cherubina wasn't good enough?
 
It's a varient of "Serafina", a feminine form of "seraphim".
It's a fairly common name in much of the world, usually spelled with an "f" instead of a "ph".
Although the "ph" spelling is legitimate, as well.
