Gaza incursion sparks EU anti-Semitism fears

    Source: EurActiv.com
    Date: Jan 8, 2009

Violence against Jews is spreading throughout European cities in the wake of Israel's invasion of the Gaza Strip amid concerns that anti-Semitism is on the rise in Europe.

Assaults against Jews, attacks on synagogues and sporadic violence have been reported in France, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark and the UK since the outbreak of hostilities

It seems most of the news I have been reading is critical of Israel in its war with Hamas in Gaza. Hamas is still launching rockets into Israel. The media is not concerned with these terrorist crimes that forced Israel to take action. The barage of critical media reports combined with growing anti semitism even before Israels response to Hamas is resulting in attacks against Jews all over the world. I am going to use this thread to bring attention to this problem to my fellow DP members.

Monday Jan. 5 Assailants rammed a burning car into the gates of a synagogue in Toulouse, in southwest France, on Monday night.

Monday Jan. 5 A Jewish congregation in Helsingborg, in southern Sweden, also was attacked Monday night by someone who "broke a window and threw in something that was burning.

Sunday Jan. 4 slogans including "murderers ... You broke the cease-fire" and "don't subject Palestine to ethnic cleansing" were daubed on Israel's embassy in Stockholm.

In Denmark, a 27-year-old Dane born in Lebanon of Palestinian parents is alleged to have injured two young Israelis last week, opening fire with a handgun in a shooting that police suspect could be linked to the Gaza crisis.

Attacks on British Jews increase amid Gaza conflict

In Golders Green, also in north west London, a Jewish man was pulled from his car and assaulted by three men. He was not seriously hurt. In the same area a gang of youths attempted to enter Jewish shops while shouting "Jew".

Do not relate turban with terrorism. Sikhs are being mistaken as Muslims because of their turban

American's seem no better when it comes to hating a religion.. other than they target others for "looking" Muslim, on top of going after true Muslims.

Am I embarrassed about the acts of attacks against Jewish targets and Jews in Europe? You bet, but dont come here at tell me that it is unusual for people to react emotionally and stupidly in times of conflict and try to strike back what ever way they can.

Like it or not Israel's actions has damaged the world view of Israel, just as US actions has damaged the world view of the US and Al Q actions has damaged the world view of Muslims. Trying to gain political capital by using the feared "anti-semetic" term and trying to use guilt yet again .. is pathetic.

Whoever the players are in any given war, their cultural groups will become subject to tensions worldwide. Think about how Germans were treated in the U.S. around WWII, and the Japanese. In Canada, the Japanese were put into camps for "security purposes" in WWII.

After 9/11, Mosques were attacked all over the Western world, and Muslims became subject to systemic racism, especially in the security sector. Now Muslims are racially profiled routinely. If Jews are suffering from more discrimination now, it's simply due to the political times.

Plus... Israel-Palestine conflict has a religious context to cause further tensions.

I can partly confirm this.. News from around Europe show huge protests, even violent aimed towards Israeli embassies. In other related activities I have seen "extremists" calling for a European military intervention in Israel, acting on behalf of Palestine..

Shameful increase in antisemitism which is clearly becoming more visible.

They dont mean anything. Protests in Norway for example have been of the very most violent and radical. Those in France have been less so.
