Holes give edge to new MoD armour

I don't know if I'd trust that armor, but if it works it works. I wonder how effective it is against explosives that are the real problem rather than bullets?

Somtimes, things are counter-intuitive for a reason...

By the sounds of things, this was developed in an effort to create an effective light-weight armor for protection against small-arms fire. Its utility against blast and large-caliber ordnance is certainly limited.

I don't know. It seems like that if this armor is effective, it certainly could find a place on the battlefield. I'm skeptic about its use in Iraq where IEDs are the main threat, but it may be useful in a theater where small arms ambushes are more of a problem.

Sure -- many vehicles need lighweight supplemental protection from small-arms fire. I also suppose it would work well against most (read: common) HEAT rounds.

But against pure blast/fragment warheads, I see little utility.
