wasn't he the women can't count guy?*

*note: I know that's not actually what he said

That's Larry Summers, who is Obama's new head of the National Economic Council. Dean Kagan is a woman who runs the law school, who turned down/wasn't offered the vacancy that Summers left.

probably because she can't count.

Obama sure has a hard-on for Academics. I'm not sure going from the Bush extreme where literacy was seen unpatriotic to an equal in the other direction is a particularly good idea.

That's true, but that's hardly his entire cabinet. I think it's been pretty balanced between fresh idea people and DC practical people.

I love his pick for National Security Advisor. My former Commadant, Gen. Jones.

Really? Was he a cool guy? What was he like?

I only briefly met the man, during an excercise in Spain. Junior enlisted don't usually get to shoot the **** with 4 star generals. But his time as Commadant, which comprised the majority of my time in, he was unafraid to make changes that he felt were necessary for the Marine Corps to adapt to its current role in the world. I believe I recall him saying that he wanted to restructure our European bases so that they would reflect current military needs, rather than Cold War attitudes we maintained past Reagan and through Bush 2s reign. I am not sure how succesful he was in that, but I remember him saying it was something he felt need be done. He was the SACUER(Supreme Allied Commander Europe) and US CENTCOM Europe, after his stint as the Commadant. I wrote in another thread, he was frank and honest with a Congressional commitee that asked if the US could decisivley win two MTWs(Major Theaters of War) at the same time. Other branch commanders said yes, and then asked for money for more projects. He told them no, he did not think US forces could handle two MTWs the way our forces were structured. He seemed to me, to be a principled and honorable man that is unafraid to speak the truth to his superiors.
