Charity homes built by Hollywood start to crumble

Yes, thank you emdash. I agree with the conservatives that homes bought with money the inhabitant earned are usually built of higher quality, but goddamn.

I applaud the people who donated their money for this cause. It's very nice that some people who have made a lot of money give more away (on top of their taxes) to help people in need.

The election campaign season is over. This forum became so absolutely unbearable with nonsensical, pointless bull**** that I had to go into hibernation for a while. Can we please avoid talking about crap from now on?

Why do you insist that this is a worthy cause? I see little evidence.

When I've wanted to help the poor find housing, I take them into my house and then try to help them find work so that they can get a house or apartment of their own.

One of the many advantages of this approach is its educational value. One quickly learns that there are reasons why we have so many poor in this country. Laziness, poor character, drug and alcohol abuse, and mental disorders feature prominently.

This is nothing more than taking cheap shots at well intentioned people. The fault is mostly on the backs of those living there. They were given housing, and are too lazy or stupid to maintain their homes.

In the news recently, a home makeover was done and the family promptly sold it, or took out a loan against it and left town, I forget which.

Back in the 70's and 80's I had neighbors who lived in FHA 235 homes, built and subsidized under a program that allowed the poor to have modest homes.
The program was abused by middle class folk who could afford to pay their own way. The interest was paid by the govt program, but some of the people deducted the interest on their taxes. My next door neighbor told me that he was advised to do that by the govt emloyee that helped him get into the program.

My whine? I just think it's absurd to ascribe a political ideology like liberalism to something like this. It just seems like a really idiotic way to take a cheap shot at something you don't agree with when it has nothing to do with the topic at all. Not everything can be broken down into such simplistic terms like liberal vs. conservative.

Everything in life can be broken down to a political ideology. Unless of course you are in denial or part of the PC middle of the road crowd who incessantly declare they are non-partisan as if it were a badge of honor to stand for absolutely NOTHING.

Like I said earlier, silly me that I would suggest you are partisan as you never have any partisan opinions right?

No it can't. Not everything can be broken down into such simplistic terms. This story is an example. There is nothing in this story that would suggest that the whole of Liberalism is at fault or has characteristics that would make something like this happen. It's a typical partisan hack cheap shot. If you are going to be a partisan hack, you should choose your battles wisely because when you get outraged over stupid **** like this it makes your other instances of outrage look absurd as well.

Let me clarify this issue for you as it is apparent you are in denial; Liberals get together to prove to the world how much they care about the poor and build a bunch of substandard houses; the poor who move in don't take care of the houses they got for free or way below market and the houses start to crumble around them.

Moral of the story, you cannot GIVE things to people and expect them to improve; it has to be EARNED.

Moral; if you GIVE someone a fish, they eat for a day, however, if you TEACH them to fish, they will eat for a lifetime.

Liberals continue to operate on the failed notion that TAKING money from one group and GIVING it to another group will solve poverty; this failed LIBERAL idea has done nothing for the poor in over 6 decades of trying to reduce poverty by stealing from one group and giving it to another; Housing projects are the best testament to Liberal failures.

Conservatives believe that you assist the poor in gaining a proper education and learning job skills so that they can be independent of handouts and GOOD intentions.

So true. I got a cocker spaniel because I believe they are the least partisan of all dogs. My political ideology sure helped me make that decision. Maybe now my political ideology can help me decide what kind of sandwhich to eat for lunch. Ham is kinda liberal, turkey is a little too conservative for my taste- I'll just have to settle for peanut butter, it's pretty moderate.;)

This isn't even a liberal policy. It was charity work that happens to be championed more by liberals than by conservatives. Unless your point is, like kandahar said, that conservatives are naturally better builders...

It was charity championed by a HUGE Liberal which typifies a FEEL good effort with less than satisfactory results.

I have NOTHING against these "charitable" acts. My argument is that they usually illustrate a failed political belief that GIVING someone something for nothing results in less poverty.

Perhaps instead of building substandard housing no one will care for, we could have used the money to build special schools to teach these people how to read and write and obtain the job skills they will need to succeed?

I think that has something to do with it. But I noticed the same thing when I changed my avatar. It's probably a software glitch. I don't think the "automatically resize avatar" feature is working properly.
