FT.com / Markets - Europeans see euro trumping dollar
The euro could overtake the dollar in global importance in the next five years, a large majority of continental Europeans believe, according to a poll days before Europe’s monetary union reaches its 10th birthday.Even the Euro currency main sceptics, the Italians agree strongly with this. And the pollsters in the US also!According to the FT/Harris poll, some 70 per cent of the Spanish and two-thirds of the French agreed “strongly” or “somewhat” with the statement that the currency could overtake the dollar in global importance by 2014. For Germans and Italians the figures were 58 per cent and 62 per cent respectively. Even some 48 per cent of those polled in the US agreed.
I could post hundreds of articles that support this view and that both the dollar and the pound is fast loosing credibility, but you have probably read some of these already, so I will refrain from that for now. The hardest fall is the pound obviously, people have just fallen completely out of love with it and the UK economy.
I have added a poll, just for the curiosity of it.
Ps. I was shocked when I saw the article, didnt ever know the Euro support was THAT strong. I knew the Euro was strong and trusted, but not so much as it obviously is.
