20 Years in Prison for Buying a Manga

2.) The postmaster does not have the right to view other peoples mail. He can verify there are no illegal chemicals, foods, anthrax ect... but he or she IS NOT allowed to read or watch mail belonging to other people.

3.) This guy is going to be VERY wealthy when his case gets thrown out and he sues the sorry assholes, which include the State and Federal government, for all they are worth.

Clearly, the moral majority have just ****ed themselves yet again.

It seems to me that in a culture this unhealthily repressed when it comes to ordinary, garden-variety nudity and sexuality, a couple of things will happen: one, they'll become very adept at creating animated pornography, and two, they'll become a little bit twisted and fetishistic.
Both of which are true of the Japanese.

The postal gestapo severly humped the bunk and WILL be shelling out big bucks to cover their manga-sized stupidity.

This type of thing is grounds for termination and loss of pension.

The prosecutor who filed these charges, and the DA who approved them, are likely to lose their jobs over this incident.

This kind of stupidy it public service is unacceptable. I believe the DA and his ADA lackey need to be disbarred over this incident.

I know for a fact that the SCOTUS declared the type of material this man purchased to be protected speech.

The idiot postal gestapo member who caused this will shortly be out of a job. The DA and the ADA will soon be the laughing stock of the legal community.

What they did is beyond stupid.... and neither of them deserve to practice law.

They shouldn't even be allowed to be waiters.
 
Wow.. I'm surprised that law is still on the books. Some people really need to stop worrying hat other people look at.
 
This isn't something new. It's not widely known but the borders are given broad powers confiscate "questionable" material on a daily basis, and it is completely at their discretion as to what is questionable. My sister had to order a book on transgendered identity issues from Europe for her psychology class because it's not yet available in North America. The Canadian border confiscated it and would not return it.

Since when did our postal services become the determiner of freedom of speech and press? You'd swear we are living under communism or something.
 
A 20 year jail sentence sounds just about right for bull**** of this caliber. Now everybody involved in dragging him to court for this **** needs to fulfill that sentence in his stead.

Being a bit of a collector myself, I think the laws are that you must blur any sexual organs and female nipples. And various other things, which have made people get very creative in pushing the laws to their limits. Hmm... by this case, I think a few of my mangas would get me 20. Minnie-May from Gunsmith Cats could get me in trouble.

Presumably, the manga in question was some kind of lolicon (depictions of child pornography).

No, there's hentai which is general manga/anime porn. Lolicon is just a subset of the overall hentai genre. Japan has very strict, and odd laws when it comes to porn, and because of that hentai became rather popular. There are a lot of weird things out there, but America has probably got some weird things when viewed from another country's perspective.
