Ford says does it not need short-term loans from bailout

Ford Motor Co. said Friday it would not need a short-term loan from the government, but lauded the Bush administration's decision to extend aid to its cash-strapped competitors and renewed a request for a nine billion dollar line of credit.

"We do not face a near-term liquidity issue, and we are not seeking short-term financial assistance from the government," Ford president and chief executive officer Alan Mulally said in a statement.

Ford said it hoped to restructure its business without government assistance but requested the nine billion dollar line of credit as a "critical backstop or safeguard against worsening conditions."

The US government announced earlier Friday it would provide ailing automakers with 13.4 billion dollars in short-term financing in support of their restructuring, setting strict conditions to prove their viability

Please don't hurry to applaud the Ford's request yet, the government will be the co-signer in such a "line of credit", and if Ford doesn't fulfill its promises or restructuring, then the government will end saying goodbye to the nine billion dollars.

To me, all this fuss about bailout money is a trap, the taxpayers will the losers at last.

So do I.. But why people persist in using a truck in lieu of a car....this makes no sense...
The government itself is largely responsible for this financial mess
credit, far too easy to secure
    no energy policy
no balance (environmentalists running the show)

I haul toys and other things with it. It is safer, I can see over other cars. It's what I like.

A line of credit while I agree is not a good thing. It is better than handing them cash.

I feel like such a communist about this car thing.

I'm just not upset about lending those people some money to get through this. If people can't get loans they can't buy cars. I don't want to see hard working people in soup lines.

Hell, we're giving the bankers hundreds of billions.

Oh well, another thing that Bush does that I agree with but nobody else does.

I wish someone had bailed out Schwinn so they were still manufacturing in Chicago.
And why does your tone suggest that you do not care about children?
