Arkansas mom Michelle Duggar gives birth to 18th child

Monday: Today kids we are going to learn about Jesus.
Tuesday: Today kids we are going to learn about Jesus.
Wednesday: Today kids we are going to learn about how Jesus did math and then go to church.
Thursday: Today kids we are going to learn about Jesus.
Friday: Today kids we are going to learn about how Jesus spoke english.
Saturday: Today kids we are going to learn about Jesus.
Sunday: Today kids we are going to church.

Well, this is needlessly offensive. I just can't quite figure out whether it's more offensive to the millions of people who homeschool, or to the millions of people who are both devoutly religious and well educated.

I find this gross... but they have the freedom to pop out babies as they please, so oh well.

I believe that Mr. Duggar has real estate holdings. They live in a huge house. The kids are very well behaved, but the parents are sorta timid and don't even seem capable of yelling at a child.

They are a religious family and have strict rules of behavior but they all seem happy.

Oh, well, congratulations to the Duggar Family in Arkansas!

What's with the uniforms for the family?

They're fundies. What'd you think?
Those aren't uniforms. It's "modest Christian apparel".
It's actually fairly costly. Costs more than regular clothes.
Look it up online.
Of course, perhaps they make their own. It's not hard to make those sorts of dresses, if you can sew at all. The FLDS wears them, too.

It's creepy. It's cultish.

They probably get a discount if they buy giant bolts of fabric, and then make all the dresses out of the same cloth.
With 18 friggin' kids, it really would be a challenge just to keep them all clothed and fed, let alone keep them clean, let alone deal with any of their emotional needs.
The older ones would have to raise the younger ones, and that's just how it would have to be.

Needlessly? Nah. It's probably offensive to both groups but then 18 more jesus freaks in the world offends me so we'll call it even.

What do they call the TLC show?

"The true-life adventures of The Energizer Bunny-Vagina"?

Maybe the husband just doesn't want to deal with his wife being on the rag?

The older ones would have to raise the younger ones, and that's just how it would have to be.

One of the reasons that practice should be encouraged. It's real life experience preparing them for adulthood and promotes stronger ties between family members.

So, they have a large family and they choose to homeschool. That makes them freaks? Or is it because they have devout religious beliefs?

True, and you can almost bet the older ones who have experienced that responsibility won't have big families. I knew a family with 15 kids, one of the older girls said she wasn't having any kids for a while because she was tired of sharing the bathroom. None of the 15 had large families when they married.

Theme song to the TLC show:

She's got the whole world in her Vag!
She's got the whole world in her Twat!
She's got the whole world in her Box!
She's got the whole world in her Cooch!

She's got my brothers and my sisters in her Snatch!
She's got my brothers and my sisters in her Crotch!
She's got my brothers and my sisters in her Cooter!
She's got the whole world in her Beaver!

She's got the sun and the rain in her Love Biscuit!
She's got the moon and the stars in her Pink Taco!
She's got the wind and the clouds in her Vertical Crocodile!
She's got the whole world in her Snake Socket!

She's got the rivers and the mountains in her Worm Corral!
She's got the oceans and the seas in her Passion Pit!
She's got you and he's got me in her Wanger Hanger!
She's got the whole world in her Prick Purse!

She's got everybody here in her Eel Pasture!
She's got everybody there in her Rodent Bag!
She's got everybody everywhere in her Moose Canoe!
She's got the whole world in her Wombat Trap!

You can't be too much of an individualist in that kind of situation. Must be a team.

And they look precious and adorable in the uniforms.

They look homogenized.

So he has 18 kids? That's not that great of a tradeoff.....

I never said it was the smart thing to do....

Just saying. I'd rather have my wife on the rag 24/7 then 18 kids on my ass. I have enough worrying about one kid breaking my stuff and trying to eat paint or w/e it is she's trying to eat lately. Like for example our cat.

Quit bathing your cat in sweet and sour sauce. :2razz:

I think I called them Jesus freaks and not just freaks...although... 18 kids...

But to answer your question. It's because they have devout religious beliefs and home school.

I think home schooling can be great as long as the kids also participate in extra curricular activities of a nonacademic nature so they can learn to interact and cope with people outside of their family. Oh, and I shouldn't forget to mention that I think the teaching parent(s) should be able to qualify to get a teaching (even substitute) job in the school district as well. Under those circumstances I think home schooling is a great option. ;)

On the basis of my (admittedly limited) exposure to home-schooling, it is my impression that home-schooling is as much about what the parents don't want their kids to learn, as it is about what they do want them to learn.
I don't believe it's right to cloister children in order to shield them from knowledge and ideas.
To send one's children into the world without knowledge is to send them out unarmed and defenseless.
It seems to me that the ultimate goal of many home-schooling parents is that their children will never go out into the broader world of mainstream society at all, but will remain voluntarily sequestered for life.
I don't view this as a realistic hope, nor a positive approach to life in general.

The few homeschooled adults I have known have been fairly ill-adjusted individuals.

The hormonal ups and downs are way worse from pregnancy than from PMS.
some women actually enjoy being pregnant and as a result of their attitude, it is alot easier to endure what happens during pregnancy
its the ****ing pro-choice whackos who see pregnancy as a cruel violation of their bodily sovereignty that act like the effects of pregnancy are unbearable
and because of thier attitude, they magnify what they are going thru for the worse. Attitude is everything

The Duggar's home sits on 20 acres which they purchased for their children should they want to build homes on it.

20 acres isn't much at all.
My family, for instance, still has 70 acres on the lake (when I was a kid, we had about 500; they sold most of it during the 90s).
My dad, aunt, and uncle, and my aunt's husband and my uncle's wife all live there.
That's five people, total.
If I wanted to, I could move my family out there.
But to me, that would be too close for comfort.
I need space.
18 brothers and sisters plus two parents on twenty acres = one acre per person.
And that's not even counting their families.
That will never work.
