Actually, given that this was not the McCain that was on the campaign trail and he lost - well that speaks for itself as to why he lost.

I see, so how'd the rest of the GOP candidates fair? Did their clinging onto Bush and policies of the last 8 years help them or harm them?

Hell yeah. I love non-campaign McCain. Guy is a class act of the highest caliber. His concession speech on election night was better than Obama's acceptance speech, in my opinion. So classy.

Rid the GOP of the "cancer of moderates", and the GOP will comprise- ooh!- a whole 10 or 15% of Americans.
    Then where will you be?

You are absolutely right. The GOP should definitely move further to the right-wing and embrace the agenda of the evangelicals and pentacostals. The GOP would do well for themselves if they abandoned any hope of appealing to moderates and independents and refocus their efforts in rallying the right-wing base.

I saw McCain twice contradict and audience member(s) when they referred to Obama in less than a flattering manner and he was very animate in his rebuttal to th0se audience members. It gave me a good feeling to see this man stand up for what he believed was right. He is a fine and descent man.

He couldn't have done any better than he did.
When the focus was on foreign policy in August with the Russian invasion of Georgia, he hit his peak and even took a brief lead. However, when the economy tanked in September, his goose was cooked.

I am sick and tired of the attacks on Obama. I didn't support him, but I respect him and am willing to give him a chance. Count me in as part of the loyal opposition. I am loyal to the ideals of the United States of America and support the democratic process. However, when I think Obama is wrong, I will RESPECTFULLY criticize him for it.
