World of Warcraft release revives concern over games addiction

How the heck did people get 80 already? I just got 72 last night.

I have a few the really help my hunter and shammy but I won't bore folks if no one's into using macros.

/2 Oh ur a n00b, my bad. "PvE" stands 4 Player vs Environment. Stan, Cartman, Kile and Kenny were obvuiously playing on a PvP server, or "Player vs Player" relm.

/2 All they had 2 do was transfer their toons 2 a PvE server, that way no1 could just walk up n gank'em 4 nothin.

Haha, not too worried about it actually. I haven't ever even seen the game in person. :3oops: No time for video games these days.

I hate feeling like a n00b.

Yesterday I was having a problem logging into some of my toons. Typical issue of malfunctioning add-ons trying to work for a logged-out toon. A UI error.

So I delete my add-ons and clean my comp. Still can't log in.

I run the repair utility; now I can access the log-n page, but not log into my toons.

I create a new toon and open a ticket explaining the problem. An hour later (which is actually a good response time, especially for a holiday) Blizz, in it's infinite wisdom, moves the never-played lvl1 toon to Moonglade to resolve the UI error, as if that toon ever had any problem.

I delete the redundant Interface and WTF files created by the repair utility. I could then log onto one of my alts. I open a new ticket explaining the problem, and ask that they address all of my characters, not just the one that opened the ticket.

I went to bed.

This morning I got up and found an e-mail from Blizz support, telling me that the problem was a client-side UI error (duh).

The solution: Reinstall.

Great, despite not having the WoW or WoW:BC DVDs, I know where I can download the game client. So I start the download...and the WoW installer crashes. "wtf?". I start it again. It crashes. I shut down all non-essential programs, drop the firewall, and start again. It crashes.

I visit the WoW forums and post the problem. I get a link to an alternate installer....which took 4 hours to get to 2%.....

So I just start reading the forums...hopefully someone will have a suggestion...

Then I learn what a n00b I am.

The WotLK DVD will install the entire game client, not just the expansion.

So I pop in the DVD....which I nearly tossed out a couple weeks ago thinking "I can always download the game client if I need it again"....it's at 76% after 5 minutes....hopefully I can get this to work tonight.
 
I go back in forth on about WoW. On the one hand, I'm sure I'd spend all my time playing it. On the other, right now I spend all my free time hanging out at bars. So what's worse?

I'd save money and brain cells with WoW, but I wouldn't meet anybody.

I dunno.
 
wow pve =group gambling
wow pvp = mutiplayer gaming.
Im a retired veteran of the old GM syste, and BC arena. Gladiator, justticar, and several times rank 11. And I firmly believe only like 2% of the time u spend playing is worth it on a reward (fun) for investment (time emotion thought energy).
TO me, its a pretty horrible return.

PvE:
I farm lvl80 heroics for rep and badges, not gear;
Dailys for rep and gold;
And I farm Shcholazar Basin for Seronite and Titanium ore....the latter I use for my daily Titansteel smelt.

PvP:
BG till I have a full set of lvl80 epix, then it's off to arina.

Why I play in general:
My guild's name is Old and Grumpy: We don't play because we have no lives, we play to escape the lives we have :2wave:
 
If parents would take more of an interest in there child's development I don't think this would even be an issue. It is just a video game and if done in moderation it can be fun and a good release.
 
I saw a guy on Dr. Phil that was so addicted to WoW that he was neglecting his wife and kids. He had gotten to the point where he felt like that was his real life. Scary!

Well first off.. Dr. Phil... should have raised some alarms.

Secondly, addiction is addiction. If this guy did not get it via WOW then he would have gotten it via something else.

And for the record.. WoW is too easy a game.
