Trump names new FCC chairman: Ajit Pai, who wants to take a 'weed whacker' to net neutrality - LA Times
The misnamed "Net Neutrality" (read more Government protection racket) will get neutered! SCORE!

Net neutrality is not bad in any sense, it basically means they need to treat internet like a utility. cell companies are expempt from net neutrality rules, and mostly what they have done is jacked up costs and pu bandwidth caps on users to ensure costs stay high as possible while gouging them for something everyone everywhere uses.

Imagine in electricity were treated the same, where you were charged by the minute a standby and rates doubled ontop of that, but someone said well you can not have electric neutrality, cuz electric rates would skyrocket and delivery rates would fall, it would take 2 inutes for a lightbulb to turn on.

Does it sound stupid, yes it does just as stupid as opposing net neutrality.

She doesn't need to imagine. She will have the pleasure of finding out for herself soon enough, especially if she lives in a rural area with zilch for isp options. Ironically, the people who are pushing for the destruction of net neutrality will get hit much, much harder than us blue state city-dwelling hippies.

Re: Trump names new FCC chairman: Ajit Pai, who wants to take a 'weed whacker' to net

I didn't insult you. You simply haven't done the research on the subject. Why do you support the censoring of the internet by media conglomerates so that you can only get what they want you to get? Why do you support throttling of a system that is required for 90% of the working world beyond a McDonalds level of employment? Why do you support right wing crony capitalism that exists solely to make media leaders(that you and other Trump supporters complain about) from dominating how and what you read on the internet?

Disagreement doesn't mean lack of understanding

Good post.

So are you going to support your thread, or are you just going to run away? I asked perfectly valid points. You seem to not be able to answer even one of the three.

Everyone gets hit hard not just rural areas. Most places only have a single cable isp and single phone company/broadband isp. There is already practically no competition between isps, but ending net neutrality is pretty much ending the last barrier these companies have from free reign with no competition.

Re: Trump names new FCC chairman: Ajit Pai, who wants to take a 'weed whacker' to net

The bill was trying to get rid of these things. Surely you support the monopolies based on every other position that you have.

I didn't say city slickers won't get hit, but we have more isp's to choose from which motivates them slightly more to be a little better. Rural dwellers (Republicans) are totally effing screwed.

Hey Trump supporters! I like this idea a lot, actually. See Republican. Now stop calling me otherwise...

Umm wut? I don't care how you designate yourself.

Maybe it is just me but this seems to be an area that trump supporters are not wildly supportive of trumps pick.

Why do you say that? I started this same thread weeks ago and they were all for the decimation of NN.

The only people wild about this pick are the establishment Republicans and liberals.

I'll never understand why people would celebrate with such vigor, something that is so thoroughly against their own interests.

on an internet forum which would likely be ****ed due to its inability to purchase preferential data treatment.

How much bandwidth does this site need?

How much bandwidth does this site need?

Um, that's not the point.

Because it's not. It's made things worse and makes no sense.

It's made things the same.

Oh, never mind, you'll find out in due time.

as much as the market will bear.

Maybe if they effect your ability to connect and download at reasonable speeds on Steam you will think more about your decision.

Nope...sorry. Cable internet companies were have already started to implement data caps on households due to this stupid regulation.

Connect those two dots.

So the last at least partially sane people then.......Do you even know why you are against it? Do you believe monopolies need to be regulated by Govt. because they are not regulated by free market principles? Do yo u know what a monopoly is?

Re: Trump names new FCC chairman: Ajit Pai, who wants to take a 'weed whacker' to net

Connect those two dots.

Cable companies would normally charge Netflix for the extra bandwidth they used. The regulation wouldn't allow that. It had to be "equal". So instead of those using Netflix paying more for their service, and therefore paying the cable companies that way, the cable companies just charge households money for going over a cap because streaming uses a lot of bandwidth.

This would apply to all the streaming services like Amazon, Hulu, ect.

So regulating a monopoly makes no sense? Please elaborate..
