China Sends Aircraft Carrier Into Taiwan Strait

I used to think that, but after having seen us bomb the bejeezus out of so many enemies the last couple decades, and them being only slowed down, not stopped, I can't think that anymore. I still see bombing as you describe as being extremely beneficial, but I go back to seeing it as a compliment to boots on the ground. Well, if you truly want to win.

The reason I am happier about our position is that we keep them at bay. Our military strength in the air and on the water actively prevents foot soldiers from our mainland. The fight is never here, we bring the fight to them.

But ya, our air campaigns have done everything but make the enemy capitulate.

"Apples and oranges" With China, you're talking about a massive human wave type attack. With what we've been faced wit in the ME, it's been small groups of fighters mixed in with civilian populations. A human wave attack would just mean a lot of dead Chinese soldiers. China knows this though, so I doubt that it would ever happen unless China decided that having a lot of unmarried, dissatisfied young men hanging around was a problem and decided to "thin the herd" with a war.
I don't think so. I see the ME-type warfare as the warfare of the foreseeable future, even when waged by China. It's proven quite effective at defeating outright take-over by much larger forces. I see China's military build-up as a way to project and protect for such efforts.

The biggest factor discouraging fighting on our ground is location and distance. Very few countries have the ability to project this far.

China has 70 subs with competent crews and can wreck havoc in the region for quite a while before they could be reigned in.

Not a pretty picture.
