Sessions claims "Lock Her Up" was just a joke, and besides he can't recall if he was ever caught on tape saying it.
Maybe we'll find out in the next 4 years.
He had no choice but to denounce them.
I would say that it goes beyond no choice. Sessions got the death penalty for a member of the Klan, but more importantly, here is a picture of Jeff Sessions attending a civil rights rally, and even holding hands with the leader of that rally.
To be honest, the Liberals in this forum are bringing up very old news in order to discredit Sessions, and it is for political reasons only.
:2razz:I really don't care about any of this Klan hooplah, tbh. I am just worried about how Sessions' gonna effect the future of marijuana legalization.

There will be no obstruction. That's a pipe dream. The Democrats don't have the horse power to obstruct his appointment. Thanks Harry Reid.
The Attorney General is supposed to serve the citizens of the USA by enforcing U.S. laws.

I am listening to the Sessions confirmation hearings as I post this.
Based on what I have heard so far, I am OK with Sessions being Attorney General for the following reasons:
1) Yes, Sessions does have a racist past, but that was 40 years ago. But people change. My brothers and I were raised racists, but today I live in a black neighborhood, and one of my brothers is married to a black woman. Once more, people change. Sessions has prosecuted the KKK, and done other things to show me that he is not the same man he was 40 years ago. I am willing to give him a chance.
2) Sessions is a far right wing Conservative, but Trump was elected, and a president's appointments serve at his pleasure.
While I am strongly against Tillerson, for reasons given in another thread that I started, I don't see why Sessions shouldn't be confirmed. IMHO, he is capable, and his party did win the election, which means that Trump has the right to nominate the people he wants, and they should be confirmed by the Senate, barring any real legal or ethical issues. He may be against Roe v. Wade, and other laws of the land, but he said today that his job is not to make the law, but to enforce existing law, and that is what he would do. I will take his word on that. Until he commits an action which speaks otherwise, I am OK with his selection.

All they have to do is get a few Republicans on board. It won't happen in THIS appointment no, but there are plenty of things ahead and if the GOP dump Obamacare sending 20 million to the no-insurance line you bet there will be consequences. Trump won by small margins in states, so all it takes is for him to over-estimate his "mandate".
Republicans should get ready to get the same support they gave Obama....None.
You must have some kind of memory loss, McConnell gave Obama everything he would have had with Harry Reid in charge of Congress. He could not have hoped for more.

As AG, Sessions can't effect marijuana legalization.
If they gave everything Obama wanted, Obama's picks would not have been obstructed like they were.
Actually, Republicans used the filibuster in the Senate more than all other congresses, dating back to the first congress, combined.
His cabinet picks pretty much breezed through, no matter how horrible. They gave him huge leeway.
