The man who owned the converted Oakland warehouse known as the “Ghost Ship,” which caught fire over the weekend killing 36 people, drew scrutiny over a Facebook post in which he lamented over what he had lost.Derick Ion’s Facebook-post received more than 2,000 mostly-critical comments before it was deleted, according to KTVU-TV.
“Confirmed. Everything I worked so hard for is gone. Blessed that my children and Micah were at a hotel safe and sound,” the post read. “… It’s as it I have woken from a dream filled with opulence and hope…to be standing now in poverty of self worth.”

He's going to be in more than "poverty of self worth" when the law suits get through with him....Good God....What an absolute shame this is....

Thoughts...?

Attorneys across America are salivating at getting a piece of this guy. He'll be lucky if he has a pot to piss in after this is over.

Just heard that the criminal unit was on scene, he'll be lucky not to go to jail.....

Sounds like a swell guy. Did anybody tell him there were people in the building when it burned down?

One has to wonder what people are thinking when they post eh?

I've had the "pleasure" of butting heads with two of these people in my lifetime. Other people died and he's the victim. He will continue to be the victim even if it is ultimately found that he committed gross safety violations.

Edit: see post below mine. Surprise surprise.

it would seem that the dude was a bit of a slum lord, renting out the area as living spaces when it wasn't anywhere close. There was no sprinkler system nor adequate fire escapes. So yeah, this guy may be worse than just sued into poverty. Can't there be criminal charges and jail time? I mean, he was profiting off of a death trap and it ended up killing over 30 people that we know of thus far. So poor and jailed looks like it is in this guy's future.

He probably never had much of a pot. The code enforcement people are going to take heat here. One way out? A makeshift staircase made of wooden pallets? Renting rooms in a warehouse? Campers on the first floor? WTF?

What a horrific incident. Kids always think they are invincible. They are often so damned vulnerable.

My money's on the fire having started on the second floor and the ceiling came down shortly after the fire become apparent. I say that because no one's talked about people jumping from the windows.

Yeah, I think I heard that they were having a "electric/techno concert" on the second floor....And that the fire may have started due to overload on the electric system....

Last I read 34 died. That's 34 counts of negligent homicide so far.
