Hampshire College In Amherst Stops Flying All Flags « CBS Boston

AMHERST (CBS) — It’s been a week of flag-related controversy for Hampshire College, after the school’s Board of Trustees made the decision to lower the U.S. flag on campus to half-staff in the wake of the presidential election–and then decided to remove the flag entirely after a wave of backlash.Read: Keller @ Large – Why So Sensitive?
Hampshire College President Jonathan Lash told WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Ben Parker he knows it’s a controversial decision to remove the flag, but he wanted to create a dialogue among those with differing opinions about the symbol.

I for one, am glad my son isn't going to go to that college. /smh

Re: Hampshire College In Amherst Stops Flying All Flags

The correct response would have been to fine the students involved an amount equal to the cost of replacing the flag they burned. Nothing like accountability, huh?

Freaking joke.

Re: Hampshire College In Amherst Stops Flying All Flags

I got a nice email from Andrew Coumo that he sent out after Trump won to my old state college email. I can safely assume if Clinton had won, nothing would have been sent out at all.

This guy is a clueless far-left individual. From the article:

"On Veterans Day, someone removed the flag and burned it.

“In the middle of the night, we have no idea who did it or even why,” said Lash.

So that’s why they decided to take down the U.S. flag–and all flags–on campus.

The flag had become a heated symbol that was making that more difficult,” Lash said.

Really? You have no idea why this happened any why this became a contentious issue? It has nothing to do with the fact that you made it so by your actions?

We really feel our community needs a conversation in which both sides listen to each other, and we wish the nation would have that kind of dialogue. We felt that if we could stop arguing about the symbol, we could get to the underlying issues.”

Of course, that decision has created even more backlash, and Lash said there “certainly is” a lot of anger about the decision.

No, he didn't want a conversation from both sides. That was made clear when he did what he did without stopping to think or get feedback from "the other side". What a dirtbag. I hope he gets fired.

Re: Hampshire College In Amherst Stops Flying All Flags

I really wish that these people that hate America and burn the flags and all that would just leave... what a disgrace.

Re: Hampshire College In Amherst Stops Flying All Flags

Trump supporters are so pumped on their victory they can't understand why everyone else is less than thrilled with the situation. Trump's election win is a disgrace, and telling people "Trump won, get over it." isn't going to change that.

Oh quit it with the broad strokes. These are kids acting out to get laid.

<- Not a Trump supporter. However, 8 and 4 years ago conservatives were told to get over it, I suggest you take that advise.

Comming from someone who spent the last year pontificating* on how bad Trump was going to loose, and was proven wrong. This just seems like hypocritical dribble.* If Hillary had one the election you would have been a loud boisterous voice calling for the right to "get over it and move on" and insult anyone not on board with you.

I think that the vast majority understand why people are less than thrilled... what they can't understand is the manner in which the less than thrilled choose to disrupt people's lives, riot, insult, etc. like whining crybabies.

You have been here for just over half of a year... how do you know what he was like prior to that?

Short answer insomnia

Longer answer
Because some nights when I can't sleep I scroll the previous old threads. Its nice to get away from the debating and see the birth life and death of some threads. It also has helped me learn who to avoid and who to debate with. They go back for close to a year, close enough that I may only be a day or two off in my year statement His words are there for all to see. And you can see how they continually say Trump will loose.

Says the guy who just today said "the right" invented the "alt-right movement".

Yeah, directly from the messiah in chief. Remember when libs were outraged about that? Yeah, me neither.

Assuming you're not just using those words as pejoratives for people that are simply protesting, they're misguided in the effect they think they have. If they (protesters and rioters alike) were to ask me what they could do to have a meaningful impact on the next election, I would tell them to organize a coherent political party of their own or to call their local center for the desired political party to find out how they could volunteer so that their energies were best placed. This is what I'll be doing.

a)Learn how to spell. Jesus Christ...
b)Learn the definition of the word "hypocrite." Not only can you not spell, you can't even use the tortured words correctly in a sentence.
c)Clinton won the popular vote by over two million votes, so it's not like we weren't right about a plurality of Americans preferring her.

<- Not a Trump supporter. However, 8 and 4 years ago conservatives were told to get over it, I suggest you take that advise.

Haha. No.

Although I would say that people who didn't vote certainly should take that advice (you spell advise with an 's' when it's a verb, btw). If you weren't interested in making your participation count in the only way that officially matters during the election, then your voice is more or less disregarded after the election. That is, of course, you decide to participate in a way like I described to Bodhisattva.

" Elections have consequences ".. .Yea, you people need to get over it.

What is the "it" you think I need to get over?

And yet, they didn't "get over it" despite what everybody to them to, so your analysis is lacking something.

Agreed, but that's only half the issue. The other half is the uber-liberal people acting like a bunch of effing crybabies. Everything, except the end result, went according to plan... so they said before the election. FFS, people, everybody, get a grip!

Re: Hampshire College In Amherst Stops Flying All Flags

At 8 o' clock in the morning, you still have that economics class and you're still going to get that morning coffee, flag or no flag. It's a stupid gesture, but I'm not certain students are going to miss it either.

Re: Hampshire College In Amherst Stops Flying All Flags

Moderator's Warning:
Last I checked this thread was about Hampshire College removing the American Flag. How about we talk about that and stop making swipes at each other? (note: This is NOT really a suggestion....)

It's a flag...a piece of cloth.

Who gives a ****?

I sure don't.

They can fly it, burn it, urinate on it...I could care less.

It's just a friggin' bunch of cloth.

Right?
