I articulated why Ford and the UAW planned to repurpose the plant to produce a different model. Trump had nothing to do with that. What Trump is actually taking credit for is the decision not to repurpose the plant and ensure they continue producing a model that is severely underperforming in the market and may be discontinued in the next few years - which is bad news for the workers.

It is less expensive and more profitable to manufacture small vehicle models in Mexico. BMW, Audi, Nissan, GM, Fiat, and Kia have been doing it for years.

It increases all costs to manufacturer in Mexico plus the transportation.

Lets see if we can understand your dazzlingly brilliant sense of businesses acumen. YOU believe that the Ford motor company executives are lying. You also believe that Ford Motor Company...a corporation that understand business and bottom line in ways you cant fathom...has decided to take a failed product line that they expect to further fail, and rather than just retool, spend many millions of dollars to relocate said failed product line.

Let me guess...you've never owned your own business before.

Wrong. I believe exactly what the Ford executives and UAW said - which is that they had planned to repurpose the Louisville plant to manufacture the Ford Escape and transition the manufacture of the model it is currently producing (the Lincoln MKC) to Mexico because the Escape is more profitable and has significantly higher sales. If you don't understand why it makes sense to move the manufacture of small vehicles with a fraction of the sales to a place with significantly lower labor costs then it's your business acumen that is left wanting and not mine or the auto industry.

"In a statement on Thursday night, following Trump's tweet, the company said it had told Trump it would cancel a plan to shift production of a single model — the MKC — from Kentucky to Mexico. The company last year indicated it would be moving MKC production out of Louisville, though it did not announce where it was going. At the time, union leaders said the shift would not cost any jobs in Kentucky, because Escape production would replace lost MKC production.

“Today, we confirmed with the President-elect that our small Lincoln utility vehicle made at the Louisville Assembly Plant will stay in Kentucky,” the company said in a statement. “We are encouraged that President-elect Trump and the new Congress will pursue policies that will improve U.S. competitiveness and make it possible to keep production of this vehicle here in the United States.”
