Russia quits International Criminal Court - CNN.com

(CNN) Russia says it will withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC) under a directive signed by President Vladimir Putin.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the ICC had "failed to meet the expectations to become a truly independent, authoritative international tribunal," in a statement released Wednesday.

It described the ICC as "ineffective," adding that "during the 14 years of the court's work it passed only four sentences having spent over a billion dollars."

Excellent, very soon, nations will start withdrawing from the United Nations!!! This is just grand!

I have no support for Russia here, but the "International Criminal Court" has been rendered worthless by larger nations with more political pull. Much like the UN these days, the efforts are submarined by the major players involved all interested in their own ambitions and goals.

BTW, now that you mention it the UN has been worthless for years now if not decades.

Multiple nations in Africa already did, if I recall correctly from what I think was a BBC world news report a few weeks ago.

Their reason given was that they did not consider it a fair court, as it was rarely going after issues in any of the larger, older, more established nations, but instead mainly focusing on the newer ones like themselves.
