Rep. Keith Ellison formally announced his candidacy to be chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
"I am proud to announce my candidacy for Chair of the Democratic National Committee, and if given the opportunity to serve, I will work tirelessly to make the Democratic Party an organization that brings us together and advances an agenda that improves people’s lives," Ellison said in a statement released Monday afternoon.

The Minnesota congressman had been laying the groundwork to run for DNC chairman even before the deep losses Democrats suffered on Election Day. In recent days, his efforts have begun to come into public view.
Ellison, who played a prominent role in Sen. Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, has already been endorsed for chairman by Sanders and Sens. Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid, as well as Rep. Raul Grijalva, co-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Sen. Elizabeth Warren also said Ellison would make a "terrific" chairman.

Keith Ellison is a strong progressive Democrat that I believe will be good for the Democratic Party. I think he will be a strong voice to counter the Trumper tactics and rhetoric. I hope him the best.

I heard him speak. He can certainly express his opposition in a strong and civil manner. That would be a refreshing change for the DNC.

As for the content of his speech... He seems to have a bad case of Democratitis. Democratitis: When something doesn't work, do it twice as much next time.

I wish the Democrat party would move more to the center and abandon the social justice rhetoric. I hope it doesn't go further to the left and become crazier.

Is he corrupt enough? Lately, that seems to be a prerequisite for the DNC Chair position.

Not just a partisan and a Muslim - but a sectarian Muslim and a race-baiter.

He sees Asians like me as elites and oppressors, and he's openly hostile.

I strongly dislike this guy.

Mooslimz are scurry arent they?

Sincere question: Why do you think he sees Asians as "elites and oppressors"? Can you give a couple of examples of his being "openly hostile"?

While Ellison may be a good opposition choice, I believe he is the wrong direction for the DNC. The DNC seems to be moving further and further left and this election should have taught them to move the other direction. Time will tell, but if Ellison takes them further on the far progressive lean they have been on, it will prove to be a mistake.

The DNC should be working hard to re-establish its working class roots in the battleground states across the Midwest and NE. Just my opinion.

For years when I listened to Limbaugh and the like I heard that the moderate republicans (RINO's, I believe) were the reason the Repubs kept losing elections.
Republicans have been moving further right in many cases, and it appears to be working for them thus far.

It's entirely possible (probable, IMO) that DINO's are the reason the Dems lost the election on basically all fronts. Who gets inspired and wants to vote for someone who runs on a platform of "what we've been doing that screwed you in various ways for the last decade or so, but just a bit more."?

So it may actually be a good thing to have people running the Democrats that want to actually do that things they're often accused of being insane and socialist by Republicans and conservatives for wanting - rather than just mentioning such things on rare occasions and telling people who want them that they're "a long way off, and we have to slowly work towards them, but vote for me and I'll screw you over in the special way I know you like democrats to do you in, while pretending I actually want those things".

Since I happen to have the same skin color as these Mooslimz, I happen to know a lot of them - probably more than you do.

Where my dad was born, there's an old saying: "the new Muslim prays 5 times a day"

Keith Ellison, raised a Catholic, is a convert to Islam, and wants to protect Islam against its enemies. That fellow has a lot of zeal in his heart - the kind of zeal that comes from being a convert.
Ellison's district in Minnesota includes Minneapolis. He hasn't done anything useful for people there, so he preaches "social justice" to rally people around him. He gets political contributions from Muslims all over America.

Pushing the Democrats further to the left may be what you would like to see happen, but that's not the same as being "good for the Democratic Party."

Good for the Democratic Party would be coming back to the center and re-connecting with the working class.

But that doesn't seem to be their interest.

Personally, I think they should move back to the center or even to the left of it a little, and reconnect to the working class.

But to move back to the center, they need to move to the left - because the left is on the right currently.

I hope they elect this guy because it would be what is best for the Republican party. Their stance worked so good in the presidential election they should stick with whatever it was that they did that was so successful for the Republican party. Amen.

They don't call them "working class" any more, now it's "deplorables", and "uneducated whites"....
