One can only hope this clown goes down this time. He's such a good 'conservative'. To date he has only cost Maricopa County $50 million because of law suits he has lost.

Federal government to pursue criminal-contempt charge against Sheriff Joe Arpaio; he vows to fight

Federal prosecutors said Tuesday they will pursue a criminal-contempt charge against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for defying orders to halt the immigration-enforcement operations that made him a national lightning rod.

If convicted, Arpaio could spend up to six months in jail.

The move has few precedents in U.S. history, as prosecutors endorsed a federal judge's findings that the lawman intentionally violated the judge's orders.
(snip)
Arpaio’s criminal case stems from a lawsuit filed in 2007 that alleged Arpaio’s immigration patrols amounted to discriminatory policing of Latinos.

U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow issued a December 2011 order that barred the Sheriff’s Office from detaining individuals solely on the belief they were in the country illegally, and without being suspected of a state crime.

Arpaio’s deputies, however, continued the practice for at least 18 months thereafter.

Re: Federal government to pursue criminal-contempt charge against Sheriff Joe Arpaio;

They didn't intend to do that it was a simple mistake.
So why is the doj prosecuting them?

Doing the same thing for 18 months is what you call "a simple mistake"?

Yep. It was a mistake. That is now the new defense to everything no matter what.
The doj has 0 evidence that they violated anything and that it was simply unintentional and a mistake.

Yeah, you must be right. The local prosecutors would have never brought such charges against a good, honest man like Sheriff Arpaio.

Re: Federal government to pursue criminal-contempt charge against Sheriff Joe Arpaio;

Wonder how this will fit in during the case.? Seems the immigration raids / use of false ID was reinstated by the 9th circuit.

9th Circuit reverses decision blocking MCSO raids - Story | KSAZ

Feds are pushing for a bench trail. Arpaio wants a jury trial. Some have speculated that the Feds only filed misdemeanor charges to avoid the jury trail.
By the way, even if found guilty, Arpaio will not be forced to leave his office. Current charges is a max of 6 months., if any.

Interesting the timing of the findings, a week before elections. Much like the Judge paying the complaint on to the DOJ a week before the primary elections.

One good thing. This time the court costs are on Joe and not the tax payers. If he wins his case, he should as the court to require the feds to cover the expense.

So you admit you know absolutely nothing about the history or the details of the case, but you're questioning it anyway.

Fantastic news.

He's been one of the most untouchable, corrupt lunatics in elected office for far too long now.

He's only looking at 6 months in Club Fed (unfortunately not dressed in pink in his own jail), but I hope he gets the full stretch.

It would be a fitting place for him to expire.

A. Please prove that there's anything corrupt about this case's adjudication or Judge Snow or the prosecutors involved in it. I'll wait. Go ahead.
B. What's the 'Democrat Party'? I've never heard of it.

Yep intent to break the law is all that matters. Whether he actually broke the law doesn't matter.

Whether he broke the law or not doesn't matter.
If he didn't intend to break the law then there is no reason to prosecute him for anything.

Simple mistake.

Don't you find the filing of charges, etc a bit odd?

Judge to DOJ... within a couple of weeks of the primary election. And now this from the DOJ a week before early voting starts for elections.

Yes, it matters. That's the heart of this entire issue.
If he didn't intend to break the law then there is no reason to prosecute him for anything.

So, again, you have not only no idea what this is about, you have no concept of this thing that we here in reality call 'the law'.
Simple mistake.

See above. Thanks for admitting you know nothing about this.

Re: Federal government to pursue criminal-contempt charge against Sheriff Joe Arpaio;

No, I don't. Why would I or why would you? Anyone who's been following this case would know how and why it's progressed like it has.

Utterly empty speculation with nothing to back it up.

Enforcing the border, since the fed won't / don't / can't be bothered is now a crime?

Where as a president exceeding his authority in his EOs and pushing prosecutorial discretion beyond it's absolute limit is acceptable somehow?

Up is down, and down is Up. Right is wrong and wrong is right. WTF?

I have been following it, I live in AZ. One time just before an election is just the way the chip falls. Twice, it seems odd.

No it is not speculation on the release dates. Try googling for Az news.

So clearly, then, you haven't been following it and you're taking the word of the campaingn manager as somehow authoritative.

Utterly empty and vacuous fingperpointing. It's the hallmark of the Arpaioa sycophants who've backed him from the get-go.

Sorry to have exposed you.

Must be part of her DNA, and probably why Obama appointed her to that position.

Ill be sure to try this one next time I get pulled over.

Your repeated defense of corruption/crime is... well its just a sign of the times.

I am using the Clinton defense. if we are a nation of laws and the only thing that matters is the intent to not violate the law then
well it has to apply to everyone equally.

Nothing to expose. You have provided nothing but opinion. You questioned the release dates. I showed the relationship to when balloting takes place.
If you really understood my post I only stated the timing was odd.

So if you want to show that I am wrong, other than name calling. Go ahead.

Got to love CA and its political views. :lamo

You haven't shown that you're right, sport. You've just stomped your feet, tried to pretend that a campaign spokesperson's accusations have been substantiated when they haven't been and generally just brayed. And you're so confused that you think I questioned the release dates when you actually did.

I'll take that as your admission that you can't back up your claim to any meaningful degree.
