WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. government has mistakenly granted citizenship to at least 858 immigrants from countries of concern to national security or with high rates of immigration fraud who had pending deportation orders, according to an internal Homeland Security audit released Monday.

The Homeland Security Department's inspector general found that the immigrants used different names or birthdates to apply for citizenship with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and such discrepancies weren't caught because their fingerprints were missing from government databases.
DHS said in an emailed statement that an initial review of these cases suggest that some of the individuals may have ultimately qualified for citizenship, and that the lack of digital fingerprint records does not necessarily mean they committed fraud.

Mistakenly awarding citizenship to someone ordered deported can have serious consequences because U.S. citizens can typically apply for and receive security clearances or take security-sensitive jobs.
Thanks Obama.

DHS said the findings reflect what has long been a problem for immigration officials — old paper-based records containing fingerprint information that can't be searched electronically. DHS says immigration officials are in the process of uploading these files and that officials will review "every file" identified as a case of possible fraud.

These would appear to be persons who have resided in the US for a number of years, so not entirely the fault of the President. Of course to transfer those old paper records to modern digital format would require spending more money - something some people don't think the government should be doing. Unintended consequences

It is the president who has stopped enforcing the laws that allowed these people to stay in the first place. Any needless deaths as a result will be unintended consequences?

Tell the loved ones that in lieu of flowers.

Eight years and Obama hasn't fixed anything, but YAY by lefties to the $10 trillion extra debt.

It's a problem spanning many presidencies. Ask your representatives why they haven't allocated the resources necessary for a faster transition. They're the common denominator.

It might help to actually read the article before you go on your typical "Thanks Obama, everything is your fault" rant....
"The government has known about the information gap and its impact on naturalization decisions since at least 2008.. The gap was created because older, paper records were never added to fingerprint databases created by both the now-defunct Immigration and Naturalization Service and the FBI in the 1990s. ICE, the DHS agency responsible for finding and deporting immigrants living in the country illegally, didn't consistently add digital fingerprint records of immigrants whom agents encountered until 2010."

--Hmm they learned of the problem under Bush.... And hmm they started recording all fingerprints of immigrants in the country digitally a year into Obama's Presidency....

Wow - it took only one post to call for more government spending.

So they've known about this for 8 years, and did nothing. And you're trumpeting this from the roof tops. Congrats man!

Did Obama submit a budget for it?

:lamo In your article and as it was just pointed out to you it the ICE started to add digital fingerprints records of immigrants in 2010 (AKA a year into Obama's presidency)...

Obama is helping the enemy.

This is why The Executive Branch doesn't have the constitutional authority to naturalize foreigners.

Doing the old pray and spray trick of panicked ill trained troops????

You are combining the Hispanic immigrants crossing our southern border with others from overseas countries with terrorist turmoil. Weak tea at best... :peace

What's your point? Or, are you going straight to the personal attack?

You said that Obama was helping the enemy. But you didn't say who the enemy is.

If it's not you, who is it?

More Conservative BS... typical... This problem extends back decades and no PUB president has seen fit to upgrade the system for all the Patriot Act crap thrown at us... :doh

The debt is a DIRECT result of failed Con fiscal policies that declared such gems as - "The Invisible Hand of the free market will steer us to prosperity" (It drove us over the cliff) "No CEO would crash their corporation for short term gains" (many bailed out on Golden Parachutes as their corporations tanked and required billions in taxpayer money (PUBS were right there declaring those corporations can't be allowed to fail)

So stand history on it's head...it's the Con thing to do.... :peace

Did Obama submit a budget for it?

Yea..

"US-VISIT Identity Management and Screening Services: An $11.2 million increase is
requested support the increased workload demands associated with the transition from 2-
to 10- fingerprint biometric capture for foreign visitors. The increase will support
biometric identifications and verifications, latent print processing, data sharing with other
agencies, and the growing Secure Communities initiative, which shares biometric
information with local law enforcement. The funding will also support information
sharing and technical assistance to select foreign governments to promote the adoption
and use of common biometric identity management standards in order to advance the
ability to screen travelers to and workers within the United States.

Better Biometrics: CBP officers currently collect biometrics from foreign visitors
applying for admission into the United States at 183 air/sea ports and 168 land border
ports of entry. 123 air, sea, and land ports of entry currently have the ability to collect ten
fingerprints from arriving foreign visitors, enabling DHS to check visitors’ full set of
fingerprints against the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Criminal Master File and latent
fingerprints collected from terrorist training camps, safe houses and battlefields around
the world. The program has resulted in a total of 3,143 people interdicted at sea, 269
brought ashore for prosecution – with 152 convicted so far – and a significant reduction
in the flow of illegal migration.

"US-VISIT Identity Management and Screening Services …………$11.2M (0 FTE)
The total requested funding for this initiative is $31.2M. An increase of $11.2M supports
efforts to address a growing workload resulting from 10 print identifications /
verifications, latent print processing, data sharing initiatives (most notably with the FBI),
and support for Secure Communities; extends the Data Integrity Group’s coverage of
potential in-country overstays to all travelers to the United States; and provides a 24/7
operational capability to provide timely responses to queries from its users. Further, the
increased funding will support information sharing and technical assistance with select
foreign governments to promote the adoption and use of common standards for biometric "

but it's still the fault of the executive branch when someone is naturalized who shouldn't be.

But, only when the president is a Democrat.

I see, you're going straight to the personal attacks.

Stop it. I do not want to attack you.

I didn't see where most of these immigrants came from, so when you say Obama is helping the enemy, is it Mexico?
