At least 25 injured after explosion in New York City, emergency workers confirm | Fox News

DEVELOPING: At least 25 people were injured after an explosion in Manhattan Saturday night, emergency workers confirmed to Fox News as police evacuated the area.

The blast was heard on West 23rd Street between 6th and 7th Avenues in the city's Chelsea neighborhood. Police counterterrorism officers, a bomb squad and firefighters rushed to the scene.

The explosion shattered windows at a nearby home for the blind, The New York Post added.

All of the injured were expected to survive, the FDNY reported. The blast may have originated in a garbage can which was found mangled, investigators said.

A witness described the explosion as "very forceful," telling Fox News it sent a "big cloud of black smoke" into the air as people ran from the scene. Another said a fireball shot into the air as a nearby building shook. Witnesses said they did not smell gas beforehand.

Well, it's a week after the 15th anniversary of Sept-11, but I'm hoping it was just a gas leak or something like that.

They're saying it's an IED (improved explosive device) placed in a trash dumpster

I wonder if this bombing is related to the bombing which had occurred just before in New Jersey?

Both seem to have involved bombs placed in trash containers

So was it terrorism or Black Lives Matter?

Or is there a difference anymore?

I dunno but it's occurring mighty close to the anniversary of 9-11, so I worry that it's related to that

Whoever did this, I think it was the same person(s) as whoever did the New Jersey bombing attack, and since that run is primary associated with the US Marines, it looks like geopolitical terrorism -- ie. ISIS, AlQaeda, or some affiliate.

I remember 15 years ago, my father tearing apart the flat looking for her number -- one of his many wonderful old friends who's been a sort of inherited elder to me -- to make sure she was alive after 9/11.

He's not here to make sure she's ok anymore. So tonight, I'll be doing the honors.

*sigh* I don't understand people. I never will.

Mayor is saying it's too early to tell if it's terrorism, but they do believe it was an intentional act. Isn't that terrorism?

hard to think of something other than terrorism if you plant a bomb and injure a ton of people-unless the guy was a greenskeeper and he was trying to rid NYC of a bunch of Gophers.

Depends if it was political or not.

Another explosion in a mall in Charlottesville, VA.

Same day as the attempted Marine marathon bombing? Could be coincidence. I wouldn't bet on it, though.

....and a machete attack today in Marlborough Mall in Calgary, Alberta.

Bill de Blasio is a moron - nothing intelligent from him.

Well terrorism requires a political motivation, it may just be intentional violence for the sake of it. Take for example the Aurora movie theatre shooting or Sandy Hook, there was no real political goal it was just meaningless violence so it is not terrorism.

Multiple people stabbed in a mall in Minnesota as well. WTH is going on tonight?

Second pressure cooker device found in NYC.

I cannot stand Obama but blaming this crap on him is pretty pathetic-especially since we don't even know who or why this happened

When things are connected, they are connected. However, we are also on hyper alert with the goings ons of our country tonight. So we are looking for more incidents to connect the dots.

really all this?

The New York mayor says this isn't terrorism.

How would he know?

I'm sure this early in the night we can conclusively point the finger at black lives matter, after all it's up to the people to prove their innocence against the government, and evidence and investigation are just lies made up by liberals to protect pansy ass criminals.

Yeah, but see planning an actual attack with explosives, especially since there were explosives earlier in a neighboring state, and TWO devices in NYC? I dunno.

The thing is, people who are (pun intended) "explosively violent" don't use bombs, creating a quality explosive device and carrying out an attack with such requires patience and a fair amount of planning. So really political motivation is more likely.
