North Dakota Pipeline killed

A Wisconsin couple is no longer worried about an oil pipeline passing through their North Dakota property or the tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees they racked up fighting the pipeline company.

The North Dakota Pipeline Co. agreed Tuesday to pay $82,600 to James and Krista Botsford for the couple's attorney and release the easement on their land near Grand Forks, N.D.

James Botsford feels vindicated. "This is a total victory," he said.

Outstanding news. The idea that private companies can claim eminent domain is ridiculous. This was a small part of the fight but it looks like the victory will be decisive.

So much for job creation.

I am glad they won the eminent domain case.
When the state recognizes property rights, it is a good thing.

That's the thing that never fails to amaze me about some people. They're so quick to scream capitalism but don't stop to think about how these massive projects impact people's lives and their surroundings. Don't get me wrong - I'm all for progress and can certainly get behind making a buck or two or even a few million. But the same people who are quick to defend these types of projects wouldn't be screaming capitalism if it were their property that was being confiscated or their way of life being grossly impacted.

The other side of the coin, is that there are people who would criticize the land owner ho chose to allow the pipeline
on their land. Property rights can go both ways.

That's true, but more people are apt to protest the oil company/pipeline construction company/conservator than their next door neighbor for selling out to big oil (the exception, perhaps, being a large lang owner, i.e., ranger or farmer).

I wonder how many of those native Americans could have a high paying during the construction of that pipeline. Not to mention increased profit for service industries like restaurants and motels. Well, get it?, they have their water which would most likely would have not been affected in the least.

they also have their sacred burial ground. How about the oil company run their pipeline through a few Catholic cemeteries instead?
