[h=1]Radical preacher Anjem Choudary jailed for five years[/h]
Radical preacher Anjem Choudary has been jailed for five-and-a-half years for inviting support for the so-called Islamic State group.
The 49-year-old was convicted at the Old Bailey after backing the group in an oath of allegiance published online.
Police say Choudary's followers have carried attacks in the UK and abroad.

At last, the chief apologist of and recruiting sergeant for IS in the UK finally gets his comeuppance. Five-and-a-half years seems a sensible sentence. He'll be out in 3, but I very much doubt he'll have learned any kind of lesson.

Maybe I don't have the full story but what he was convicted of was making youtube videos that encouraged people to join ISIS?

Unless it was specific acts which the article doesn't suggest that it does that would be protected under the US Constitution. While it is obviously illegal in the UK, I probably won't be joining in on the celebration.

I for one am thrilled that the piece of crap will be locked up for an extended period of time. Even better if he gets shoved in solitary confinement with no access to the outside world and no platform to communicate with those vulnerable in the prison population to preach his vile rhetoric and recruit others to engage in acts when they are released that will result in the murders of more innocent people.

On the other hand I care about the right of free speech, clearly thats just me

Gosh, I thought they did things like this only in Russia.

For years he skated along the boundary between freedom of speech and incitement to violence. No right comes wholly without restriction Crovax and nor should it.

In Choudary’s case, the right to free expression should not extend to advocating support for Islamic State and encouraging participation in the well known violence they engage in because it ultimately impinges on the rights of those who wish to live without fear of attack or persecution by those nutters.

Their right to life is bigger than Choudary's "right" to encourage his puppets to take their lives.

It's about time they sent that loudmouth Jihadist supporter to jail.

If they sent all jihadist supporters to jail, that area inside the Beltway would be empty.
