[RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92[W:56]

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

And what do you sow? Bright rays of sunshine?

If anyone is sowing bright rays of sunshine, it's polgara. Nobody else.

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

In death, the respect you receive is commiserate with what you earned in life. That woman earned none from me.

Whatever you say. It seems as if you are celebrating one's passing which is a bit morbid. But I guess a large segment of the population in this country even celebrated 9/11, so different strokes for different folks I guess.

She was a strong and gifted Woman who had the courage to stand up for sometimes unpopular ideologies. Throughout her long career she took on superior forces with superior manpower and beat them. Her life is a testament to what one woman can do in the face of overwhelming odds. She was a warrior, indeed a Happy Warrior and I admire her for who she was and what she did.

Greetings, TheGoverness. :2wave:

When you live in Ohio, and you have both Clinton and Trump tromping all over the State campaigning, you gotta do something! I went to a BBQ tonight, and guess what everybody was talking about! A pox on Ohio being a "must have" for both parties! You just know when it's time to give up and have a margarita or two - I do and I did! Hope everyone had a great Labor Day! See everyone tomorrow! :lamo

I actually wonder about that. It doesn't sound like tension free holidays for that family - the title of this month old article is bad, but what it's covering (in-fighting of the family) is being covered in other articles too The Sad Last Days of Homo-Hate Queen Phyllis Schlafly | Advocate.com

The problem is that time period the article alludes to (1960s-70s) was so full of enemies of equal rights that to pretend in 2016 that back then she was solely responsible, i have a hard time believing that. If anything, her gay son and brother strike me as continuous sellouts who have never offered a damn thing more for gay rights or dignity

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

Don't you love "tolerance".

Incidentally, I don't know anything about this lady. This is the first time, in fact, I've ever heard of her but judging by who the sole twisting hate is coming from, I'm guessing I'd like her.

In March 2007, Schlafly said in a speech at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, "By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don't think you can call it rape."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phyllis_Schlafly#Viewpoints

Yeah, she was a real peach.

As per the thread, I didn't realize she was still alive until I saw her obit trending on Facebook.

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

The desiccated debutante of hate is gone.

The world is a nicer place.

I don't agree with that to be sure, any more than I agree with the "all sex is rape" or "marriage is oppression" crowd.

And you're hoping to take her place or....

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

I never agreed with much of what she was selling, but damn, I respect a person who dies that old with their boots on.

i haven't heard those used as *legal defenses* ever, but i sure have heard her line from 2007 used to defend rape. I think that's what Kobie was getting at - words can be mere opinion or harmless banter, or they can do harm when the speaker becomes idolized....

such as at that very same speech when she declared women should be banned from physical jobs such as cops, military, or construction....

also she supported Trump because he was going to "expel all muslims," i can take that as her bona fide reasons since tons and tons of people believe that is Trump's intentions and he hasn't done much to deny it

but these are her words, not bashing. She would've been proud of them...

She was influential, whether you like or hate her. Hell she helped stop the ERA (something I for one find a good thing). How many people can say they stopped an amendment in it's tracks? Her generation was not predisposed to being LGBT Friendly, my fathers generation, only just removed from hers... Not so friendly to LGBT causes. Hell many of MY generation aren't all that sold on it. She was both a visionary thinker and inspired the Country to stop a rush to changing the Constitution while at the same time she was trapped by certain prejudices and opinions of her youth. It is what it is. The hate and vitriol is mostly due to political beliefs being outmatched and they find an easy target in some of her more traditional stances. Most of the haters could not articulate why they hate her, just lash out as they were trained to do.

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

You say "hateful" like it's a bad thing while you proudly display it yourself.

I don't make my living hating on groups. But if I did, I would deserve it when people pissed on my grave.

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

What's confusing to me is he consistently put forth the very same views on here now is celebrating as if he's always been a liberal
I don't expect you to understand. You're "liberal" comment shows that following nuance is not your strong suit.

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

Actually, it's funny to see him talk about what the "Christian" thing to do or not do (even capitalizing it) as if he hadn't started multiple threads elsewhere claiming what a fraud Jesus was.

I never said Jesus was a fraud, only that he didn't exist...at least not as a walk on water, immaculate conception, resurrection and Son of God kind of guy. I believe I've said that Christians like Schlafly are frauds though.

Did you ever articulate why stopping the ERA was a good thing? I recall you being asked to do so.

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

Hmmm, what's that "RIP" in the thread title mean again?

Rot In Pergatory?

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

Did you mourn Mao's death in 1976?

Are you effing serious?

He changed to liberal just for the venomous hate! [/Seinfeld]

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

What exactly was Phyllis' position on gay people? I never heard it before.

Only thing I know about her is being against the ERA.

Read and 'enjoy'.

And people, Stay Classy. If you want to celebrate her passing, do it somewhere else.
If you only have hate to give, these types of threads are not the place for it.
You know who you are.

Re: [RIP] Longtime Conservative Icon Phyllis Schlafly Dies at 92

She was a horrible human being. The world is a better place without her.
