IRS doesn’t tell 1M taxpayers that illegals stole their Social Security numbers

Earlier we found out that the Justice Department informed employers who attempt to follow the law by not continuing to employ people who overstay their visas are breaking the law by following the law, and now we find out that the IRS isn't telling Americans when their identities are stolen by illegals.

The IRS has discovered more than 1 million Americans whose Social Security numbers were stolen by illegal immigrants, but officials never bothered to tell the taxpayers themselves, the agency’s inspector general said in a withering new report released Tuesday.

Investigators first alerted the IRS to the problem five years ago, but it’s still not fixed, the inspector general said, and a pilot program meant to test a solution was canceled — and fell woefully short anyway.

As a result, most taxpayers don’t learn that their identities have been stolen and their Social Security files may be screwed up....

It's kind of like the people who lost their health insurance or who can't actually get healthcare anymore because they can't pay the new astronomical deductibles. Dems will screw over 10 people if they think it will produce one anecdote they can use.

EDIT: may not even qualify as "malfeasance." Very likely it's just simple negligence.

Just finding out now? Lol I found out the first time I received a social security statements and I had wages earned as young as age 1 yet had never heard a peep from anyone questioning why a 1 year old is working.
 
Many years ago Social Security had me working in both Texas and New Mexico at the same time. I informed SS that at that time, I had never even been to New Mexico. In reality, it added to my SS fund. Now that I am retired, I should thank that man for increasing my monthly allotment.

Because with a Republican leader, surely everyone will be contacted the minute it's suspected that an illegal is using their ssn.

I think it is more of a "Liberals wish to avoid the unfortunate topic of criminal conduct by illegals in the U.S. because they see them as a sympathetic (and conveniently democrat-voting) demographic".

On this we can agree.

As an employer, it's a huge problem. I'm not DHS. I'm not ICE. I'm not the FBI. My HR department does everything it can to make sure people are legally authorized to work, and they are who they say they are.

It's a massive problem when somebody lies, and defrauds the company by stealing an identity, and takes a job. No matter how great they are at it, the cause huge problems when, and if, the law finally catches up to them.

I've had people work for years and then suddenly a letter arrives from SS stating there is a problem with an employees SS number. We bring them in and tell them they need to get it cleared up, and they disappear. That leaves a hole in the company others have to figure out how to plug.

So on one hand, you have the illegal jerks proving they don't care about the people they work along side, and on the other, the IRS hiding their activities.

How politicized can this issue become?

Not likely. The President doesn't appoint a large percentage of the workforce in a federal bureaucracy, and, while he is responsible for its actions, often finds it difficult to really force his will downward if that will is resisted.

identity theft is a federal felony at this point.
there is no negligence in stealing someone's identity?

wow the Clintons have brainwashed the entire justice system that intent of what someone does is all that matters.

you tell that to the person that gets their life ruined because some illegal stole their identity and destroyed their
credit.

These people are now robbing others of their identity. it is the job of the IRS or anyone else to report
it. if they don't then they are compliant in a federal felony.

The IRS obviously didn't do their due diligence, but it takes a special kind of hackery to make this somehow about "liberals not caring" or "Clinton brainwashing."
 
I find it funny that the cons are calling these people "illegals" when their racist candidate, Trump, is encouraging the Russians to hack the US government.
