The federal govt is offering states "extra help" in protecting the US electoral system from possible foreign hacking (aka. "The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!")

Elections security: Federal help or power grab? - POLITICO

This is an ominous slippery slope - such federal intervention in state and local democratic processes could end up subverting the American democratic system. The behavior of the IRS towards certain conservative groups in trying to audit them merely because of the political views they identify with, is ample precedent on how power can be abused.

Americans should be vigilant against such dangerous trends now emerging.

Better get your ID's handy, there is a line forming.

LOL now it is a problem just because the Russians are being blamed? It was a problem in 2000 and ever since, but nooo that was nothing...

IDs? The people coming in are suing the states to prevent identifying voters. Has anyone read that this "we're from the government and we're here to help you" is being offered. I've read that the White House is targeting certain states to get help from Jeh Johnson.

My first thought is that the federal government who can't keep their own computer systems secure and functioning are going to help the states. The IRS loses everyone Social Security number and the government lost critical information on federal employees and the IRS spent millions to unify their system and it didn't work and then there's the State Department who has private systems carrying secure information and can't track emails for FOIA transparency. That sounds like an outfit that I'd hire to improve security.

Then we have this administration politicizing the census, the DOJ, the IRS, the NLRB, the FCC, and every other aspect of the government but they're going to go take charge of voting in a few select states and it will just be to improve security. It won't be to improve the voting for dead people. Oh, hell, no.

And, does any trust Barack "you can keep your health insurance" Obama? Does anyone trust "families will save $2500 a year" Obama? Does anyone trust "Stay the course" Obama? Not me. He is not a friend to America. Cuba, Iran, Venezuela, Hamas, and France, maybe, but not America.

We're getting screwed in this election but couldn't the leftists pretend, just this once, that they want it to be honest. Instead of honoring Melowese Richardson, couldn't they just tell her to vote just once this time? Could they tell their teams of thugs that go to nursing homes to coerce the elderly into signing absentee ballots just stay home this year? Oh, wait, they're just helping. Like Jeh Johnson is just helping.

Good! Does this mean no more fictional characters, illegals/foreigners, multi-state residents or dead people can vote.

I suspect the powers that be have been controlling election results for some time.

The federal government would be seriously derelict if they did not take the Russian threat seriously in view of the actions they have already taken. The cornerstone of our system is free elections where the results are honest. Anything less takes away from the integrity of our very system.

They must do this and they must do this in this election since it is more than obvious that the Russians have already taken sides and want a certain party to win.

I'm more concerned with the situation that Chris Matthews describes in my city. I see nothing in place that prevents this from happening from when he said it in 2011:

"In 2011, on his show Hardball, he explained a common scheme: “People call up, see if you voted or you’re not going to vote. Then all of a sudden somebody does come and vote for you. "

Just the last election we received such a call.

I usually side on the side of states' rights as long as individual liberty isn't being violated. But I think I would prefer the federal government be in charge of elections for federal offices.

And in 2000 before Barack Obama took office, were the feds sent in to oversee? You can make light of it, however, when Loretta Lynch our Attorney General is allowed to meet privately with Bill Clinton while Hillary is under investigation and nothing becomes of it - you have to wonder what else this executive team is capable of. I mean, we've been talking about this as a conspiracy for months now and as you watch it unfolding, those who saw it coming are saying - yep here it is. I personally don't care what side of the fence you are on, certainly you do advocate for a fair election. Comey as the Director of the FBI has taken all kinds of heat over being unwilling to indict Hillary Clinton, He is under the thumb of the President. The President clearly does not want Trump to win. There is bias there no matter what you say and bias needs to stay as far away from the election as possible.

No but the UN was around the 2004 and 2008 elections and commented on the issues on security and impartiality... that has got to hurt no?

And no one that is sane wants Trump to win.. I bet even the dodgy voting machines in Ohio are being set to, to vote for Hilary or Johnson.

This whole topic is being blown way out proportion. From the reports I've heard - the hacker(s) only managed to gain view-only access to a voter registration database in a single county. How does that translate into a threat to national election outcomes?

Voter ID would help squash that scam.

Jeh Johnson will have his people there to see that the dead aren't disenfranchised. No one in the current administration wants an honest election.

The UN considers the DPRK elections to be free and clean.

Oh Hell no! This may be the most manipulated election ever.

When you make the comment that no one sane wants trump to win, I no longer can take you seriously.

That anyone would want to vote for that con-man makes them insane.

The sheeple are worried about Russian tampering, while ignoring millions of dollars from overseas contributors funneled into the parties through corporations.

A gullible bunch, we are!
