Ryan Lochte lied about robbery, Brazilian police official says

I have a better view of the swimmers. Sure, they spun their story. They were not robbed. Rather, they were shook down at gun point by security guards using minor vandalism and drunk and dumb behavior as a pretense to sieze the money they had with them as a "fine" of sorts.

I doubt the money taken shake down went to replace the vandalized soap dispenser. Likewise, I have a feeling if they had $500.00, or $5,000 on them, the "fine" would have been that much higher.

Stop making excuses for assholeswho have admitted that they areassholes, and own up to the fact that if you areanasshole who commits two crimes at one time- vandalism and public urination- then you get what you deserve when you have to pay up thousands of US$ Dolla in fines.

I am more of an American as you, Mr.CrypticDickhead, and I love my country more than you, Mr.CrypticDickhead, and that is why I am embarrassed for my country when people like these US Olympic swimmers make international spectacles of themselves, and that is why I am embarrassed by anyone who defends such behavior. You and they have mental problems, Mr. CrypticDickhead. Get a God**Damn**ing shrink ASAP, dork.

You know, it is possible to be both an asshole and a victim of an armed robbery or a shakedown. What does one have to do with the other, anyway?

Spare me moron,

I have travelled in non tourist areas and worked in enough developing countries to know a shakedown of foreigners when I see one. In fact, I have been shaken down once myself in Africa. The pretense was the claimed violation of a verbal "contract" with a driving service.

I just paid the extortion, left and forgot about it. So long as the extortion is with in reason, being a foreigner and arguing with locals in a developing nation is very dumb.

Nope- I have never been drunk in public, nor have I ever vandalized anything, nor urinated in public. No moron, I don't "back" those who do those things at home or abroad.

I don't really care what your citizenship is. Nor do I care how much of a "real" American you claim to be. In fact, claiming to be "more" American than somebody else is pretty well.... moronic.

Well said- and I have a strong suspicion that this is the case. With that dual possibility likely, and though an apology was warranted, I wish the US Olympic committee had not given such a complete and total apology.

From Jack Conjer's statement:

Early Sunday morning I was with USA swimming teammates celebrating at the French House. Four of us took a taxi back to the Olympic Village, and on the way we pulled into a gas station to use the restroom, but ultimately relieved ourselves outside, for which I apologize. Ryan Lochte removed a poster from a nearby wall, which apparently alerted the gas station employees, leading to our being confronted by two armed security men. Although I cooperated with their requests while there was a heated exchange among others, at one point a weapon was pointed at me. Eventually, a man appeared who was able to translate for us, helping to defuse the situation. We paid some money to compensate them for the torn poster, and returned to the Village in a different taxi.

And from Ryan Lochte's latest interview with Matt Lauer:

Lauer pressed Lochte on why he maintained his statement to police and to the media, including NBC, that they were "victims."

Lochte could not pointedly answer that question, but admitted, "I over-exaggerated that story."

"I can't answer that. 'Cause I was intoxicated. All I know is that there was a gun was pointed at us and we were demanded to give money," Lochte responded. "Whether you call it a robbery, whether you call it extortion, or us paying just for the damages, like, we don't know. All we know is that there was a gun pointed in our direction, and we were demanded to give money."

In Lotche's case- everything. He acted like an a-hole in another country, and was forced to pay for what he did. It's as simple as that. As an expat myself, I make sure never to mess with the locals.

+1 What an Idiot .... And aparently it is not the first time when he turned violent while drunk. Hrre in South Africa he would have been shot dead.

Spare your own goddam self, moron- these bugger swimmers of ours have admitted fault, and dropped the shakedown bull**** (would they rather have had a few days in a Rio jail?), and it might not be too late for them and their buggering fans, such as you, to look in the mirror, get a life, and stop making excuses for inexcusable behavior

and dropped the shakedown bull**** (would they rather have had a few days in a Rio jail?)

Try thinking about it "More American":

- Do you really think that money went to the owner to fix that soap dispenser? Or maybe, just maybe, the guards pocketed it? Do you really think that Brazilians are routinely put in jail for urinating what is arguably "in public" (behind a gas station)?

A few weeks ago, two mildly intoxicated college student cut through my neighbor's property. I have his permission to look after it. What do you think would happen if I pointed a pistol at them- then demand their wallets as a "fine"? Extorting cash from the swimmers is not the norm for Brazil either. Due to many factors, it just happens more frequently in Brazil and with more impunity.
and it might not be too late for them and their buggering fans, such as you
Fan? Is anybody truly a fan of swimming?
get a life, and stop making excuses for inexcusable behavior
You are still having trouble wrapping your more American mind around this concept:

- One can engage in inexcusable behavior and
- Still be a victim of extortion.

All in all, this will be my last response to you. I do, however, totally acknowledge that you are an American.
