Trump Outlines Foreign Policy Plans to Fight ISIS

You know some of these guys are probably in, like, Ohio, right?

That should like, make them easier to find, since, like, the NSA is plugged into every personal computer in the country. If that's the case, there's no excuse for ISIS's cyber operations to still be up and running.

It's not even a plan. "Work with our allies in the region" is what everyone says. Obama has been doing that, and you guys hate him for it. "Work with NATO" isn't a plan, we already do that. "Cut off their internet" displays a lack of understanding of how the internet even works.

Goddamn when will you people learn to think even a little bit critically about what the man says?

What? No...hey.....Clinton and stuff!

What exactly is extreme vetting? I want to know the secret to this and I'm sure every city, state, and country would want to know too because if there is a way to predetermine if a person will commit a crime then we all need this extreme vetting process world wide - immediately!!! No more crime!! Yay....Trump saved the world.
It's like the vetting process now, only more extreme.

Aren't you just massively impressed with The Donald's plans? I mean, wow....all he has to do is vet people extremely, and voila! Everybody is safe.
Reminds me of the scene in A Few Good Men where Demi Moore's character "strenuously objects".

Now we're back to the "literally magic" argument.

Please walk us through the Trump's quote and show us where he said to shut down the Internet. I'm waiting.

Ugh. What do you think? That ISIS is operating from one house that you can shut the internet service to? What is the exact assumption you're starting with here?

I thought your said they're in Ohio?

Ahh, so you do think ISIS is only in one location.

no wonder you're buying such a nonsensical "plan."

In an excellent speech today lauded by many, Trump defined the key thrust of his foreign policy strategy on confronting the threat of Islamic radicalism as a rising danger to world security:

Loved the speech - it came across very well, and this is the kind of stuff that needs to be focused on, defining major problems and laying out the solutions.
So, in other words, we're going to do pretty much what we've always done, but this time we're going to be more extreme about it.

Got it.

Target their electrical grid, for starters. Can't get online w/o electricity.

So you want to shut down every place with electricity where ISIS might be communicating. Is that what you're saying?

Ahh, so you do think ISIS is only in one location.

Well, of course we have to go find them. That requires actually looking for them.

So you want to shut down every place with electricity where ISIS might be communicating. Is that what you're saying?

Not every place. Target their primary sanctuaries in the territory they control. Its simple strategy.

Okay, so you've knocked out all the infrastructure in the territory they control. Now what about their ability to communicate on the internet?

Well, of course we have to go find them. That requires actually looking for them.

So you don't think anybody's looking for them?

What I like about the speech is that he clearly identified the threat and emphasized the need to keep it out of this country. We cannot afford to repeat the foolish mistake European nations have made, and let the enemy inside our gates, as Mr. Obama is doing and Mrs. Clinton wants to do. It may already be too late for some of those countries, but it certainly is not too late for the U.S. If necessary, make new immigration laws that exclude everyone coming from certain nations.

I suppose NATO is the best vehicle we now have for coordinating our efforts in a war against jihadists with our allies in Europe, however far that is from the organization's original purpose. And the leaders of nations like Egypt and Jordan would not need to like Trump or his statements about Muslims to cooperate with the U.S. if he were President. They know very well just how serious a threat Islamic jihadists pose to their nations, and that gives them good reasons of their own to cooperate with the U.S. in fighting them. Also, Jordan and Egypt both have good intelligence agencies which have for years been providing us valuable information about jihadists.

If you think vague plans sound great, then you'll love that we're bombing them every chance we get and that they've lost nearly 50% of their territory since they started.

Yet expanded to 30 countries....Now he is letting out former planners, and security heads of AQ so they can help replace any that he may have killed....Kind of like when he let Bhagdadi go from Afghanistan....What a genius eh? pfft.

Oh, wow, ISIS is a threat. Thanks, Trump. Before you came along nobody was talking about them.

I suppose NATO is the best vehicle we now have for coordinating our efforts in a war against jihadists with our allies in Europe,

Would this be the same NATO that Trump claimed if it were attacked we wouldn't come to its assistance? Oooops.

Yes, because they are sure to cooperate with a man who hates Muslims.

They know very well just how serious a threat Islamic jihadists pose to their nations, and that gives them good reasons of their own to cooperate with the U.S. in fighting them.

They will act in their own interests in a way that does not correspond with our own interests, because that's what happens when you take a giant **** on international diplomacy.

Also, Jordan and Egypt both have good intelligence agencies which have for years been providing us valuable information about jihadists.

Which they are unlikely to do for a nation whose President openly hates Muslims.

The notion that leaders of governments have to be chummy to cooperate is childishly silly. One could easily hate the other's living guts, and yet realize it served his nation's interest to cooperate with him. Britain did not ally itself with the Soviet Union because Churchill was an admirer of Stalin, or of Communism.

Right.

Do you acknowledge that you can't shut down ISIS's ability to communicate on the internet without shutting down the entire internet?

100%? No, but Trump didn't claim to be able restrict 100% of their internet activity. However, the capability exists to be able to significantly inhibit their ability to conduct cyber operations.
