Mexican authorities say armed men have abducted multiple people from an upscale restaurant in the popular beach resort city of Puerto Vallarta.
Prosecutors in the western state of Jalisco say two SUVs carrying an unknown number of gunmen arrived around 1 a.m. at the restaurant on the city's main boulevard, which runs through the hotel zone.

The Jalisco prosecutors' office said Monday in a statement that it was still investigating. Five vehicles were abandoned at the restaurant, but it was unclear whether they belonged to any of the victims or attackers.Mexican media reports say as many as 16 people were abducted, but authorities did not immediately confirm the number.

Mexico is a ****hole of a country... my stupid ex-father in law moved there and my ex-wife wants to take my kids to visit. He lives were there are armed bandito's still, roaming the countryside/hilss and harming and robbing people outside the supposed safe zones. Well, lately, as we can see, the safe zones are not that safe. What a dump.

I've been going there for 40 years, never had a problem, some of the nicest people in the world. I have no worries traveling there.

If we stop hearing from you we know what happened...

Mexico is a big country. I lived there a couple years. There are parts that are hell holes, parts that are heaven on earth, and everything in between.

It is a common occurrence but these people don't do this at random.

There is usually a target or multiple targets.

I am surprised it happened in such a touristy area.

That resort wasn't smart - they should have built a wall - one that worked.

When something like this happens my friend and I have contacts on both sides, good and bad.

Apparently what happened was one group of bad guys found this other group of bad guys.

There were 16 people all together, 8 men and 8 women.

The first group took the men leaving the 8 women alone.

I knew it had to be something like that.

These things don't happen for no reason here.
