"Making a Murderer:" Dassey conviction overturned - CNN.com

The conviction of Brendan Dassey, a Wisconsin man who appeared in the documentary "Making a Murderer," has been overturned by a federal judge in Milwaukee, according to court documents obtained by CNN.
Dassey was convicted in 2007 of the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach. In overturning the conviction, the judge cited the manner in which a confession was obtained from Dassey, who according to court documents has a low IQ.

Prosecutors have 90 days to bring Dassey, now 26, to trial again or he will be released.
His uncle, Steven Avery, the subject of "Making a Murderer," is in a Wisconsin prison also serving time for Halbach's murder.

Wow. Did that TV show have anything to do with it?

Glad to know the world is still capable of serving some justice. His interrogation was downright state-sanctioned thuggery and his conviction was dubious. The TV show had nothing to do with it except for exposing what went down in a small, forgotten town.

This guys going to be walking the streets again ? Thats concerning to say the least

No doubt. Proof how the media (IOW: the light of day) can be used for positive effect. Without the show the people who stepped up for him in the last couple years probably never would have done so.

Anyone with two objective brain cells to rub together can clearly see this kid is innocent.

I believe the state will appeal, though. He's not walking soon.

Well even the police need to follow the rules, and sometimes when they don't things like this are overturned. Poor police work brought this about.

But I do believe the government has time to bring charges and prove their case once again, but they will not be able to use the confession since it was obtained through inappropriate means.

They have 90 days to appeal, so the soonest he can get out is 90 days from that date, but I believe they will appeal.

He's not some innocent kid. He's a twisted POS who deserves to spend the rest of his life in a cage

Yeah, but as long as he can't buy a gun, it's going to be ok.

What in the **** does the cat have to do with the murder in question? Also, that's not even the right guy.

Most of the points in that link are incredibly weak, to the point of being completely irrelevant. They only appeal to people who want to believe and are needing something to point to.

You need to get your facts straight. Your link is about Avery. It is Dassey's conviction that was overturned. None of those points pertain to Dassey.

Yup, my bad

Yup, my bad

So were you being intellectually lazy or were you just grossly uninformed? Can we expect better from you in the future or is this just par for the course?

Oh, geez, give it a break. He fessed up and admitted a mistake. Let it go.

It's crap like your post here is why debate has become so effing uncivil.

I wonder what effect would this have on Avery's case. The state will be hard pressed to go for another trial since the publicity is now fever pitch- this could be a fatal blow for the DA.
