Cleveland police union asks for suspension of 'open carry' in wake of Baton [W:48]

Re: Cleveland police union asks for suspension of 'open carry' in wake of Baton Rouge

You do realize rifles come apart, right?

Yep. But what active shooter takes the time to ****ing break their rifle down after they shoot the first time?

Even broken down pieces need somewhere to go, and police would have already set up a cordon.

It really doesn't take very long at all to break down a gun.

Depends on one's level of experience with a firearm.

Active shooters, however, don't take the time to stop shooting people and break their weapon down.

Re: Cleveland police union asks for suspension of 'open carry' in wake of Baton Rouge

Seems like a pretty reasonable short term security measure.

Bad guys with guns will break the law anyway... might has well let the good guys arm themselves too!

Re: Cleveland police union asks for suspension of 'open carry' in wake of Baton Rouge

This would have been an interesting topic, but your troll post reduced it to nothing at all.

bingo-thread winner. The OP is a gun banner. its disingenuous for gun haters to engage in faux indignation over what is basically a secret service issue.

In a convention that has lots of politicians, the place will be crawling with Secret Service and other armed security. I don't mind an area where you cannot carry firearms as long as there is plenty of armed security. Like Federal courthouses. Every federal case I ever tried, had at least one armed guard in the courtroom, one or two patrolling the halls, several guarding the entrances to the building, and at least a couple dozen armed Deputy US Marshals, Probation officers, FBI agents, DEA agents or IRS CID investigators in the courthouse

Do a quick search online. Isis wants to start targeting airports. Their supporters have even named a few on top of their list they want to target.

Five reasons why airports are prime targets for terrorists like ISIS in wake of Istanbul attacks - Mirror Online

That's the daily mirror it's tabloid gossip.

Anyway the logic of allowing people to carry weapons in an airport in order to stop Isis attacks is up there with one of the most absurd things I have ever read.

The FBI says hello.

I know, I know, the FBI doesn't understand facetiousness. I should be more careful. :2razz:

Cleveland police union asks for suspension of 'open carry' in wake of Baton Rouge, ahead of RNC - CNNPolitics.com

Unbelievable. What a knee jerk reaction. They should allow open carry not only in cleveland but in the republican convention. What if isis shows up? the only way to stop bad guys and corrupt cops with guns is to arm the good guys.

Obviously your'e not a cop in the line of fire.

Re: Cleveland police union asks for suspension of 'open carry' in wake of Baton Rouge

You think an open carry ban would stop these violent cop killers? As if they'd care?

Wow.

Possibly not but do you not think everyone carrying guns will make the cops job even more difficult?

Re: Cleveland police union asks for suspension of 'open carry' in wake of Baton Rouge

Restricting peoples freedom because cops are scared is illogical. If Cleveland cops are scared of doing their job then they should quit, not ask for people to have less freedoms because of their fears.

Yeah they should be expendable right?

The FBI says hello.

I think he was referring to dumping him as the nominee.

Re: Cleveland police union asks for suspension of 'open carry' in wake of Baton Rouge

What do you do with your gun in a government building or an airport?

You can protect 'Murica.

Wow haven't heard that argument in a long time. You know now that all the guns that are being used in mass killings were bought legally.

Good guys don't walk around strutting with their guns in public places. Flakey people do that.

"We are sending a letter to Gov. Kasich requesting assistance from him. He could very easily do some kind of executive order or something -- I don't care if it's constitutional or not at this point. They can fight about it after the RNC or they can lift it after the RNC, but I want him to absolutely outlaw open-carry in Cuyahoga County until this RNC is over."
-Stephen Loomis, president of Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association, told CNN.

"Ohio governors do not have the power to arbitrarily suspend federal and state constitutional rights or state laws as suggested. "The bonds between our communities and police must be reset and rebuilt -- as we're doing in Ohio -- so our communities and officers can both be safe. Everyone has an important role to play in that renewal."
- Gov. Kasich responded

Well that's that

Unless they're going to stop selling guns in the United States, including Cleveland, or keep any of the roughly three hundred million firearms in this country out of the hands of bad guys while the Republican National Convention is taking place, his statement is factual: "Bad guys with guns will break the law anyway."

Re: Cleveland police union asks for suspension of 'open carry' in wake of Baton Rouge

Obvious troll thread is obvious.

No...I dont think people need to open carry to protect the country from ISIS during this convention. However...considering the violent hatred the leftist groups have demonstrated in the recent past and considering the money the Soros affiliates will be throwing at the protests and attempts to disrupt the process, its NOT unreasonable to believe participants of this event are at risk and may need the right to protect themselves. Lets hope the assholes and douchebags (and their supporters) that would disrupt the electoral process stay away, or at least stay at a nice safe distance.

Moderator's Warning:
If you think someone is breaking the rules, report it and ignore it. Responding to it in a problematic fashion, such as accusing them of rule violations, is likely to get yourself in hot water.

Now, despite the attempts to troll the thread from the very onset, there is a topic here. I'd suggest everyone ignore the trolling attempts, as they won't be continuing, and focus on the actual story that was linked as the topic of this thread

Odd comment - I seem to see police offcers doing just that on a regular basis. ;)

Or the post office. Can't even bring one in the parking lot.

But does it actually reduce gun violence? People who want to kill people tend not to abide by gun free zones.
