Beijing rejects tribunal's ruling in South China Sea case

In the South China Sea, it's not just China-vs-USA, it's pretty much China against every other country in the area. Even Japan has defense cooperation going on with Philippines and Vietnam.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the rumors that China helped finance the presidential campaign of Rodrigo Duterte, who just became president in Philippines. No wonder the guy is making quiet noises about seeking a meeting with Beijing.

Now come on America you know you want another war to try out your new equipment, what better place to do it the South China Sea, Vietnam wants you back after kicking your +++ in the early 1970's, the Philippines want you back as well, and yes we in Australia would rather your soldiers die than ours, you know you want to be there as you cannot stuff up the Middle East anymore than you have, so come over and give it your best

Sounds like your envy is really getting the best of you. Don't feel bad your country is nice to. No need to be jealous.

Well, we have communists on this site who at least manage to be with it enough to not back China on everything and who are willing to admit that Joseph Stalin was a monster.

Ganapathy is a new animal entirely. He reads like he is some peon sitting in a cube at Communist party HQ in Beijing tasked with spreading communist propaganda.

Let's be honest an cut the auspicious labeling; China is an authoritarian regime. Any claims that they are communist, socialist, etc... are exactly that.

An authoritarian regime that imprisons far fewer people, both percentage and numerically, than the oh so great us government.

The nation of China is authoritarian. They censor their news, internet, peoples sentiment, etc....

Furthermore, they are no more socialist than the U.S. and less so than dozens of European nations.

While the U.S. criminal justice system is bent on enforcing drug laws (which is more about garnering votes from both ignorance and fear), that does not excuse the atrocities committed to the citizens of China, in opposition to their government. An American citizen can (and many do) protest against their government. A Chinese citizen doing so are punished by imprisonment or death. While i view both of those legal realities by each country as a negative, freedom of speech supersedes my right to consume what i want.

Just as Communist USSR turned into Authoritarian Russia, likewise Communist China turned into Authoritarian China. Both are now places where capitalism abounds, even while govt exerts tight control over the people. There is also the oligarchic aspect, where certain wealthy families are closely tied to the ruling elite, advancing its interests even while profiting handsomely from those close ties.
