Intruder shot by off-duty St. Louis County officer after online argument about BLM

Re: Intruder shot by off-duty St. Louis County officer after online argument about BL

I can't remember if it is meth heads or alligators...but rub their belly right?

I think it's both.

You must have some very impressive internal doors and walls at your house. The typical internal door in a house isn't that sturdy if someone wants to come in.

Your typical exterior door isn't even that sturdy. If you have a steel or laminated wood door with a jamb fastened with 3" lag screws (not 3" sheet rock screws) at the latch and both hinges, you can slow someone down, but that's about it - someone who really wants in can kick in almost any door. All you have to do focus your kicks on the bottom corner on the latch side of the door. Most people can knock down an interior door with a simple hard slam of their hand. If your house has fir door jambs (the most common), most 8 year-olds can go right through them.

Relative of suspect says he was suffering from mental health issues. Says so right there in the article.

So what?? Does that mean that the homeowner should have known that?? Even if they did, does that mean that the threat he posed was any less??

And why mess with the door? There is going to be a ground floor window somewhere.

I want to know what the cop posted on facebook that sent the guy over the edge.

Why? It's not relevant.

Re: Intruder shot by off-duty St. Louis County officer after online argument about BL

I don't have a problem with shooting a home intruder. But the guy was a cop. Isn't it his job to apprehend such people if possible?

That's his job. But he wasn't at work, he was at home with his family. He responded accordingly to a threat

That would spoil all the fun Renae is having over this dead black man.

Re: Intruder shot by off-duty St. Louis County officer after online argument about BL

Why? It's not relevant.

Not relevant to whether it was a justified shooting or no, but it certainly was relevant to the chain of events that led a mentally unstable individual to being shot. Maybe people shouldn't antagonize such people? Anyway I would just like to know the context of the back and forth that led to this.

That's the thing, FS. If someone breaks into your occupied house, they are going to be within 20 feet of you. A young male can cover 20 feet within 1 second. During that second you are expected to determine if they have a mental problem, are not under age, have a weapon, are not accidentally in the wrong house. Why is that such a problem?

No it's wasn't.

Millions of people get antagonized by someone every day. Some right here on this forum. Few carry the fight to someone's home.

It would not surprise me if the exchange was not still on Facebook. It's difficult to erase all traces of a back and forth exchange. If I cared I would attempt to find out. I don't care.

They were acquainted, the young man had been struggling with mental issues. That being said it looks like the young man threatened the cop and his family which would be hard not to respond to.

True. Meth head alligators are nothing to fool with. You just gotta shoot 'em. Then you can rub their bellies.

To hell with him. He got just the fight he was spoiling for, and he lost.

You right wingers say this a lot when the dead man is black.

Why does it matter what color his skin is?

Only you are commenting on his skin color.

Why is it important to you?

I don't know what a "right winger" is, if anything. In my experience, it is whites who claim to be "liberal" who harbor the most animosity toward blacks. They usually conceal it by posing as their defenders.

I say again--to hell with this person. He was dumb or unbalanced enough to try to invade the home of someone who was armed, and he got himself killed. That's how it works.

Re: Intruder shot by off-duty St. Louis County officer after online argument about BL

Good thing the guy didn't find THIS website,, He would probably be visiting all our houses....

Re: Intruder shot by off-duty St. Louis County officer after online argument about BL

I want to know what the cop posted on facebook that sent the guy over the edge.

Unless it included some sort of direct challenge, threat or dare that would constitute baiting him to attack the home "Bring it on thug- if your man enough, I am waiting for you" or "You need to kill me before I kill you", I cant see why it would matter in the criminal sense.

In the adminstrative sense, I can see why some departments might not want police officers engaging in extremely partisan online arguments over the group though.

This website would be shut down if we couldn't antagonize the mentally unstable online.

Lock yourself in another room and call the police. After all this young man was a great kid who was off his meds, did he have to DIE for that?

No, he died because he broke into someone's home and posed a credible threat to him. It's tragic if he made that amazingly stupid decision partly because he's off his meds, but that's not why he died.

I would have acted precisely as this cop did. Threaten me or my family, break into my house, you die. that's it.
