Teaching children that some white people treated some black people unfairly is both accurate and absolutely essential for imparting historical truth.
Teaching children that "white people" as a category of humans have treated "black people" unfairly as a category of humans - and incidentally, little Johnny, YOU are one of the "white people" and your friend Bill is one of the "black people" - is another thing altogether.
The one is a statement of fact that we can learn from. The other amounts to perpetuation of racial categorization of humans. It is also depends on the concept that all "white" share more or less in the quality of being privileged and all "black" people share more or less equally in the quality of being disadvantaged. That is obviously false.
Assigning qualities in a general way to a group of people on the basis of their so-called race is at the root of racist thinking.
