Ohio library rejects adding transgender coverage to health insurance

I think insurance is expensive enough just taking care of people with actual illnesses.
While a person who can not come to terms with the physical body they were born with,
may be a mental illness, it is not a physical illness!
A person choosing to medically alter their physical body,
that does not have a physical illness, is the vary definition of elective surgery.

To add to that...should we pay for piercings and tattoos?

I hate to nit pick, but the language in this article is so utterly screwed up.

"Gender" is psychological, "sexual" is physical.

There is no "gender reassignment surgery" unless you are doing brain surgery, there is "sex change surgery" and those seeking such surgery are called "Pro-Op Transsexuals" and those who have the surgery are "transsexuals".

The article discussing it is all screwed up because the topic is so screwed up. No one really knows what the hell they are doing. Gender this, sex that. Liberals run amok, I say.

Well, true. I think the liberal/progressives just use whatever word they think has the most political cache.

Also, I just noticed my typo. Obviously I meant "Pre-Op".

The reason the Transgender issue is an issue is that TransGENDER people want to keep the bait and tackle they were born with and that causes issues in bathrooms and changing rooms and opens the door to non-transgender people accessing the bathroom of the opposite sex under the guise that they are transgender.

I'm just waiting for a guy who identifies as a transgender Lesbian to marry a woman who identifies as a transgender gay man... only then will we have come full circle.

Insurance should be to cover life threatening conditions that come up unexpectedly.

Any elective surgery should be out of pocket.

Why should somebody else, which means all other policy holders, pay for this persons elective surgery?
