Orlando Gunman had Used Gay Dating App, Visited Nightclub, Witnesses Say

IDK...... when I see Israel, which I remind you is supposed to be our expert on these matters, bulldozing Palestinians homes because one person in the family is a criminal I kind of get the idea that family is important to the Islamists. Then I see the super low sexual assault rates across most islamic zones and so then this seems confirmed. I also hear that Iraqi men almost to a man openly weep to Lionel Richie, so I wonder (OK, this last bit is an exaggeration).

Ya see my point? If we were talking about white trailer trash I might believe it on assumption that pops is clueless, but here I am waiting before I make up my mind.

OK? Channeling Don
That's a good point about the bulldozers.

But I think, perhaps, the reason you see low sexual assault rates in Islamic zones is probably because it's usually the woman that gets blamed and beheaded, not the rapist. Or worse yet, they make the rape victim marry their rapist. So women tend not to report it. So I don't think it is confirmed at all.

I get the sense (channeling?) that the father and son weren't very close. I also wonder if Mateen learned his hatred for women because of how his father treated his mother. I don't think women are treated very well in Afgan culture....so his father may have instilled disrespect for women in his son. And too, his co-worker said that Mateen told him that he hated women and he hated that he had to be nice to them to get sex. So if he just wanted sex then perhaps that might explain his interest in Gays. But he hated them, too,..because...? Because he didn't want to admit that he was one, too? Hard to say..some questions might never be answered.

It's a somewhat interesting twist but the bottom line is - he was nuts.

If you murder 49 innocent people - you ARE nuts.

Was he a closet homosexual, scouting for victims, trying to understand them...who knows.

The bottom line is a madman had easy, legal access to massive amounts of firepower and used it to murder at least 49 people.

Focusing on the 'why' means far less to me then on the 'how'.

I go the otherway, I am not so interested in the tools chosen for a job, I am interested in why a man decided to do this particular job, and how it come to this.

Maybe this is one of those different strokes for different folks things.

Ex-wife’s bombshell claim: Club shooter was gay | New York Post

The ex-wife of Orlando mass killer Omar Mateen claimed Monday that she believed he was homosexual — as it was revealed that he frequented the gay nightclub where he staged the nation’s worst massacre in modern times.

Sitora Yusufiy, who was married to Mateen in 2009 for three months, made the shocking claim on Brazilian television station SBT Brazil.

Her fiancé, Marco Dias, speaking in Portuguese on her behalf, said Yusufiy believed that Mateen had “gay tendencies” and that his father had called him gay in front of her. Dias also claimed “the FBI asked her not to tell this to the American media.”

Who knows? Maybe scouting the target.

Possibly, but other patrons stated that he was somewhat of a regular. Then factor in drinking, and not just token amounts.

In short, I could see him scouting by visiting his future target once or twice to note the layout. While there, he then has a drink or two to blend in better. The apparent frequency of the visits and frequency of drinking, however, seem to suggest something else.

So if he just wanted sex then perhaps that might explain his interest in Gays. But he hated them, too,..because...? Because he didn't want to admit that he was one, too? Hard to say..some questions might never be answered.

Good point about unanswerable questions.

At the same time, if he was straight and simply wanted to relieve his sexual frustrations via gay sex (apparently some what excusable in moslem culture so long as one is not really gay- wink, nod, and one is the uhmm... "macho" participant), I could see him trawling for impersonal homosexual encounters by "cruising", Craigslist or alternative magazines etc.

Instead, he seems to have wanted personal contact with other homosexuals in addition to sex. Thus, I suspect the possibility of him being a self loathing homosexual.

The media is cornered, trying to figure out what to do with the shift in dynamics here.

At first, it was a tailor-made gay hate crime. They could have run with that for months on end.

Now, he's a gay terrorist. The narrative is gone. Gays were mass slaughtered by one of their own.

So ban guns. That's their only out.

ORLANDO, Fla. — The gunman who attacked a Florida gay nightclub had attended the club before the attack and had used a gay dating and chat app, witnesses said.

Kevin West, a regular at Pulse nightclub, said Omar Mateen messaged him on and off for a year before the shooting using the gay chat and dating app Jack'd.

...As soon as West saw photos released of Mateen after the shooting, he said, he drove to his local police station, where officers summoned FBI officials, who showed him a photo of Mateen on a computer screen. Orlando gunman had used gay dating app, visited nightclub, witnesses say

Isn't it a little odd that Mateen was going to gay bars if he was supposedly a devout Muslim who hated gays?

His ex claimed he WAS gay , she would know .

I think it shoots a hole in the narrative in exactly the opposite sense. How could he have been motivated by hatred of gays if he was one? Clearly, he told the truth when he said he was motivated by radical Islam.

I can't think of another situation where a gay man went nuts and killed a bunch of other gays.

Recall that the 9-11 hijackers went drinking and whoring in the days leading up to the 9-11 attack. It is said that this was because they could be assured a place in Heaven if they died attacking infidels, so they were expecting a get-out-of-Hell card, so to speak. Perhaps it was the same with Omar Mateen.

Probably casing the club and scouting out other potential targets. So he can get a good layout of the place, check out what kind of security they have in order to effectively kill as many people people as he can. Many criminals do something similar.Burglars might watch a home for a while to get a good idea of resident's schedule so they can rob the place when he isn't home.A bank robber may case a bank and the surrounding area in order to get a good idea of the security, layout and anything else that can help him be more successful in robbing the bank and getting away.

He is a ISIS sympathizer(investigated multiple times for being a terrorist sympathizer). ISIS as well as many Islamic countries treat gays horrible. So I doubt he was saying to himself "man I love ISIS but I hate what they do to gays, they could get more members if they were friendly to the gay community." or "**** ISIS wants me to shoot up my favorite gay club, if I have to I guess I will".

Being gay is completely against his religion and family life.

I think the how and why are both important to fully understand the case, and law enforcement will be looking into both.

People who want to ban guns usually focus on the 'how' motive, as they convince themselves that more gun bans could have prevented this. But I'm skeptical.

Just consider what was the latest shooting spree in the US prior to the Orlando assault; Cho Seung Wi killed 32 at Virginia Tech, with handguns, not assault rifles.

Maybe he just wasn't gay enough and was ostracized by the patrons at the bar and this was his way of getting revenge...

The guy was nuts. Muslim nuts, gay nuts, whatever kind of nuts you want to apply to him, the dude was a broken toy and needed to be removed from the toy box. It's tragic that he had to take so many with him....
