Clinton opens up double-digit lead over Trump nationwide: Reuters/Ipsos poll

Or why a Conservative Party would run a Liberal as their candidate?

Trump is liberal. Just as long as you believe he's not racist or sexist, you should be able to admit that he's also not conservative. I wouldn't call it forward thinking, but Clinton is probably more conservative than Trump. Just look at what they both accomplished during the 90's. The Clintons came out of the Deep South, from Arkansas to New York. Trump and Bernie Sanders are both from New York.

HRC is originally from IL, which used to be a swing state, but is now Democratic. Steeped in the politics of the South, it's not hard to imagine how HRC appeals to liberal leaning moderates.

The vast majority of that polling took place BEFORE the Clinton speech you credit for the supposed trend. Plus how pathetic is Hillary that she cant reach 50% support against a buffoon like Trump. Hillarys advantage is nothing more than good fortune--she is, perhaps, the second worst candidate for president in the modern era. Her good fortune happens to be that she is running against the worst. You must be very proud.....

Oh ya never know, after Trump's attacks on an AMERICAN Judge due to his parent's nationality (so many Pubs like to point out 'mexican' isn't a race) and speculating a Judge's religion would bias in a court case Hillary might just hit the magic 50% and maybe even a bit more... ;)

I'd say the proud ones should be the RNC- after years of hard lessons at the ballot box- TRUMP is the best they could muster this time... :doh

Clinton opens up double-digit lead over Trump nationwide: Reuters/Ipsos poll

“Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton has opened up a double-digit lead over Republican rival Donald Trump, regaining ground after the New York billionaire briefly tied her last month, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Friday. The shift in support comes as Clinton steps up her attacks on the real estate mogul's policy positions, and as Trump fends off criticisms of his eponymous university and the pace at which he doled out money that he raised for U.S. veterans.

Some 46 percent of likely voters said they supported Clinton, while 35 percent said they supported Trump, and another 19 percent said they would not support either…………….

I guess the HRC foreign policy take-down speech of Donald’s lack of qualifications to be president has had a rather dramatic effect on changing the polls

Do I detect a trend........:lamo

Hillary would be a horrible President, one of the worst in recent history. She's a liar, a crook, a corporate politician. But it's hard to see her losing to Trump. The GOP fudged up when they put him us as their candidate.

"The science of public surveying is in something of a crisis right now," says Geoffrey Skelley, a political analyst at the University of Virginia's Center for Politics.

And it matters because "polling is a very important element of democracy," said Michael Traugott, a University of Michigan political science professor who specializes in polling and opinion surveys. Traugott also helped prepare a groundbreaking report on how Gallup, a public-opinion titan, erroneously predicted Romney would defeat Obama in 2012.

Polls "give the public an independent voice that's not generally present" otherwise in politics and political news coverage, Traugott said. But he says the recent errors, and a steep decline in the number of people responding to opinion surveys, is "a worrisome trend because one of the main claims of polling is that it represents the people's views."
Why Public Opinion Polls Are Increasingly Inaccurate | US News

Tell us why polls matter again?

I imagine that "crisis" will be solved right around the time you find a poll that finds Trump is ahead.

This poll has no significance outside the upcoming Democratic National Convention. Right now, HRC is motivated to be the DNC nominee. Until the general election, polling against the RNC nominee is little more than shadowboxing for candidacy within the DNC; we know that Bernie Sanders outperforms HRC in the general election, because this is more than a career stepping stone and bipartisan crisis negotiation to Dems.

why did so many people vote for him

I admit, I cannot figure that out.

but I know lots of people-far more conservative than I am on social issues and as conservative on economic issues who did

It's hard to think of anything that Hillary has accomplished. Can anyone name three things that she has done for this country? And please, whatever Trump is, lets not even try and say Hillary is conservative or supports the Constitution in any way.

Trump might do a good job as President, he might not. We already know Hillary would just be a continuation of the current disaster.

Those who do not learn from their history are doomed to repeat it.

Would that be the same history that has giving Democrats the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 straight presidential elections and the electoral college in 4 out of 6?

Is that the same history where 5 years of so called job creating tax cuts lead us into the single worst recession since the 30's?

History has shown us that the economy has done far better when Democrats hold the White House, and by any objective measure the economy is once again doing quite well despite Bush's attempts to destroy it.

Together, more voters favor a candidate who has little to no experience in national politics (Trump) and a candidate who has historically ran as an independent (Sanders) who caucused with Democrats than any Democratic candidate.

Hillary Clinton may have painted herself as an incumbent DNC candidate, but she is no debutante. Yet we don't have a clear sense of what her dominant convictions are. I guess it's not as nebulous as moderates and libertarians such as yourself may think. She sees the party as a launching pad for her career. This is arguably candidacy for promotion, i.e. "Victory."

My name isn't Geoffrey Skelley.

Don't know who that is and I don't care. Nonetheless, I have zero doubt that the next poll that shows Trump ahead you'll be on like white on rice. It's hilarious how any time a mainstream, respected poll says something people don't like, polls are "broken" or "it's too early to tell."

I generally don't put much faith in polls Cardinal. Polls are used to sway public opinion, just like any other piece of mainstream media. Look into Chris Kahn, the pollster who made the poll that the OP is talking about. Most of his polls have an anti GOP/pro Dem slant.

Actually not as many as one would assume voted for him, he just got more support than any one other candidate. That said it is a mystery why so many Conservatives support him, my guess is that many are so fed up with the status quo that they are willing to back anyone that steps outside the box and trump is way outside the box in fact he is a Liberal and always has been. What is more baffling for me is how so many conservatives believe that Trump would actually support conservative ideals, sure he says what they want to hear but the reality is he will not be pushing conservative values and ideals but will push for those things he believes in, including stricter gun control laws, something he has supported in the past, he is after all an elite and they have their own security so can not care less about 2nd A rights. This election is truly a indicator on how far we as a People and Nation have fallen, there will be no Winners in November and many many losers.

None so big as Trump though. I can't wait to see him with his tail between his legs.:2razz:

You mean like David Duke? But we know what he sees in Trump don't we?

I suspect most of the black voters who are racist support Clinton, In fact just about all of them

would like to see that also, but do not underestimate the stupidity of the American Voter.

Why would a White Supremacist praise Trump as "the best of the bunch" if he wasn't racist? Which "black racist" leader has praised Clinton?

You seem to think that because someone praises one of two bad candidates that means the candidate is whatever the person giving the praise is

that is stupid

I don't think Bill Clinton was necessarily a racist but plenty of racists supported him. Like Jessie Jackass or Al Sharpton.

Robert Byrd was a good friend to Hilary. Byrd had a high role in the KKK. As far as we know, Duke isn't friends with Trump.

I never relied on polls.
They only add useless tensions and those who produced them probably get paid.

Robert Byrd was a good friend to Hilary. Byrd had a high role in the KKK. As far as we know, Duke isn't friends with Trump.

Byrd had long renounced his racism by the time he even met Hillary. When did Duke renounce his racism?

Republicans of all stripes were right to clobber Donald Trump for his failure to disavow support from David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan. But some Trump supporters are so desperate to somehow prove that Democrats also harbor racists that they are dredging up the name of the late senator Robert C. Byrd (D-W.Va.)

Nice try. And a pathetic one at that.
Yes, Byrd was a member of the Klan. Even worse, as he wrote in his 2005 book, he formed a chapter of the domestic terrorist organization in the 1940s. Then, Byrd went into politics. Several times during his 57 years in Congress, Byrd’s Klan connection threatened to upend his career. But here is where Byrd is no Duke. He admitted his mistake and atoned for it in public and in policy.
In his memoir, Byrd wrote, “It has emerged throughout my life to haunt and embarrass me and has taught me in a very graphic way what one major mistake can do to one’s life, career, and reputation.”

This and other words of contrition made it a no-brainer for Democrats like presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton to openly mourn the man who had been the longest-serving member of Congress when he died in June 2010. “Robert C. Byrd led by the power of his example,” then-Secretary of State Clinton said.
Because of Byrd’s evolution on race and equality, the NAACP issued a statement praising him at the time of his death. “Senator Byrd came to consistently support the NAACP civil rights agenda, doing well on the NAACP Annual Civil Rights Report Card,” said Hilary O. Shelton, director of the NAACP Washington bureau and senior vice president for advocacy and policy. “He stood with us on many issues of crucial importance to our members from the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act, the historic health care legislation of 2010 and his support for the Hate Crimes Prevention legislation.”
